To support that challenge, the Global Crop Protection Regulatory Operations team is currently seeking a Global Data Science Specialist in Basel, Switzerland. This role with a global scope will give you the opportunity for collaboration across functions and geographies.

In this role you will drive excellence in data analytics, through

  • Support the value-extraction of Crop Protection (CP) Regulatory data across Syngenta
  • Support the CP Regulatory ambition for digitization and digital transformation
  • Connect data from a variety of sources to enhance transparency and provide input into decision making by applying Data Analytics, retrospective Business Intelligence, and stakeholder-oriented reporting.
  • Enrich our regulatory data with other sources of data, internal and external, historical and emerging
  • Drive the development of AI/ML models to enable scenario testing / predicted outcomes

Accountabilities

  • Drive the creation, management, and exploitation of trusted FAIR data within CP Regulatory to enable more effective analytics and data science
  • Translate business requirements into relevant dashboards, reports, analytics, and modelling solutions using multiple data sets, KPIs and other data points
  • Build multi-dimensional data sets from inconsistent sources
  • Implement and maintain reporting capabilities using e.g. Qlik Sense, PowerBI, Tableau, Spotfire and other reporting and visualization tools applications
  • Design, develop, experiment, and evaluate AI/ML models using e.g. MLFlow, Kubeflow, Sagemaker, Vertex AI, or equivalent and applying machine learning frameworks such as e.g. Tensorflow, Pytorch, or Keras
  • Monitor data accuracy, and integrity of data used in analysis and reporting
  • Collaborate with data engineers, platform leads in neighbouring functions to promote Regulatory driven Data Use Cases and build robust and effective data-platforms.
  • Deliver data related insights to the CP Regulatory teams and beyond seeking to drive significant impact via timely, data driven decisions.

Qualifications

  • M.A/M.Sc or higher degree in STEM, Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
  • Minimum 5+ experience in relevant fields and 3-5 years in Business Intelligence/ Data Analytics/ Modelling
  • Strong SQL knowledge and data manipulation/ modelling skills. Experience with C#, Java, R, and/or Python is a plus.
  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience of data/metadata management principles and platforms including data quality, data governance, data catalogue, master and reference data and their application in scientific R&D
  • Working knowledge of relevant public domain dictionaries, standards and ontologies and their application for interoperability and reusability of data
  • Highly competent in Data Visualization techniques and software such as Qlik Sense (preferred), Tableau, Power BI, etc.
  • Knowledge of data architecture concepts such as database systems, data lakes, xml, json, APIs, etc. as well as scripting for data access, wrangling and preparation (e.g. SQL, Python, KNIME)
  • Knowledge about how to develop, track and report project metrics and KPIs
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functional and geographic boundaries with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English. Any second language would be a plus
