CORN Germplasm Development Lead I

Department/Function: R&D

Location: Cascavel/PR

 

The purpose of the Germplasm Development Lead is to plan, manage and support the delivery of a breeding pipeline aimed at improving the performance of Syngenta's germplasm.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Design Breeding strategy according to R&D regional strategy and business necessities.
  • Lead regional Market Segment Teams focus on effective execution of given strategy.
  • Manage breeding pipeline in multidisciplinary teams, including activities, data standards, methodologies and resource planning.
  • Use of data analysis (phenotypic, genotypic, predictive, etc) to perform advancement decisions.

 

  • Prepare and communicate all relevant information, analysis for advancement meetings align with involved areas.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, experience & capabilities

     

    Educational Background

     

    • PhD or Master in plant breeding
    • Fluent in English

     

    Critical experience

     

    • Proven track record of 8+ years in a breeding program

     

    Critical Competencies

    • Demonstrate strong customer orientation, displaying a thorough understanding of target market, farmers' views and feedback, and long-term market opportunities.

     

    • Ability to connect effectively in interdisciplinary teams and with a diverse group of stakeholders and functional collaborators.

     

    • Skilled communicating to audiences of all sizes with messages that are compelling to customers and stakeholders at many different levels, addressing effectively their information needs.

     

    • Able to hold the crop vision while simultaneously adapting to the dynamic organizational environment.

     

    • Invest in the future of breeding by equipping the teams with  development opportunities and growth experiences.

     

    • Ability to prioritize, provide good work instructions, understand and work within the fundamentals of project management

     

    • Demonstrable grasp of trialing, phenotyping, crop processes, germplasm utility, and scientific basis of plant breeding, with a strong analytical skillset

     

    • Demonstrate competence in using key breeding tools while also scouting promising new technologies

     

    • Skilled in appropriately challenging how we do what we do. From a mindset of critical analysis, able to innovate in important ways to drive better efficiency.

     

    • Consistently operate in line with all relevant Regulatory, Quality, HSE and Process standards  Understand and comply with germplasm FTO.
