Foundation Seed Lead

Job description

Planning, execution, field management, and processing of cereal parent seed productions to deliver conventional and hybrid Foundation Seed products that meet forecasted demand and quality standards.

Duties:

  • Lead the purification and multiplication of all spring and winter wheat Foundation Seed stocks.
  • Execute production pipeline by performing internal parent seed productions & contracting growers to deliver Foundation Seed classes of conventional cereals and hybrid wheat.
  • Coordinate conditioning, packaging, proper storage, and inventory records for seed products.
  • Ensure quality and purity standards are met for all seed productions and seed stocks.
  • Transport, calibrate, and operate machinery/equipment to execute field operations, seed processing, and logistics for seed productions.
  • Ensure all seed crop management records are complete and timelines are met for seed processing, packaging, labeling, planting, agronomic management, and harvesting.
  • Facilitate and foster good working relationships with contract growers within each region.
  • Coordinate and monitor progress of seed certification inspections for internal productions and with contract growers.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in seed production or equivalent work experience and knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience interacting effectively with growers and third-party personnel
  • Understanding of cultural practices (e.g. crop rotation, weed control, soil fertility practices)
  • Knowledge of seed industry procedures, practices, and terminology
  • Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple productions simultaneously at peak work periods
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to work outdoors and indoors in dusty and loud conditions in environments with varying temperatures and/or weather
  • Ability to work 7 days a week during critical times of year
  • Class A CDL

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Agriculture or related field.
  • Training in crop scouting or agronomic certification.

Role is Remote (home-based) in Central Plains/Northern Plains USA region. • Travel by vehicle and air approximately 30% of time. • Eligible to work in the U.S without sponsorship.
