Food Chain Residue Expert 

Managing pesticide residues in the food chain has become increasingly important in enabling farmers to use Syngenta’s products and to then export their produce globally. The Food Chain Residue Expert will work with teams from Syngenta’s Product Safety, Regulatory, Biology and Commercial functions to deliver residue data, expertise and advice to meet these customer requirements. The Food Chain Residue Expert also represents Syngenta externally with farmers and food chain partners to better understand customer and stakeholder needs and to provide solutions to residue related challenges. 

If you have a strong interest in agriculture, ideally with experience of working with food chain partners, this is an opportunity to work within a small technical team who have a global remit, helping internal and external customers with their residue needs. 

Accountabilities: 

  • Lead the delivery of residue expertise into non-regulatory Syngenta projects including market access residue initiatives and EU MRL mitigation projects 
  • Work with and utilise the capability and expertise of the Residue Science and Human Risk Assessment groups in Product Safety to deliver non-regulatory residue outputs 
  • Drive the development of digital techniques and tools to predict residues in food 
  • Ensure non-regulatory residue data are stored and managed effectively 
  • Represent Syngenta in project teams and in interactions with food chain stakeholders 
  • Solve food chain problems e.g.in meeting secondary standards or in unexpected MRL exceedances 
  • Contribute to the residue reduction activities in the Syngenta Good Growth Plan and in other sustainability activities 

Qualifications

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience of delivering and/or using residue data 
  • Skilled in residue data interpretation and communicating outcomes to non-technical stakeholders 
  • Have worked in multi-disciplinary and geographically diverse teams with skills in building and leveraging internal and external networks 
  • Capable of demonstrating good technical judgement 
  • Experience of managing data in databases and/or involvment in the development of digital tools would be a benefit 

Qualifications & Knowledge: 

  • Qualified to degree level in chemistry, biology, analytical science or related subject, or equivalent work experience. 
  • An in-depth knowledge of residue data generation and how real-life product use patterns are likely to affect residue profiles.  
  • An understanding of regulatory residue requirements and of MRL systems in place around the world.
