Accountabilities:
Complete a capstone project to tackle crop challenges and identify solutions with Production leaders in one of the following areas, depending on your expertise:

Horticulture

  • (Example topics) Optimize crop nutrition, improve product quality, maximize crop performance, environmental sustainability, pest prevention strategies

Mechanics & Digital Tools

  • Automation & digitization, machinery upgrades, energy efficiency, equipment downtime, data analysis, data modeling

Operations

  • Time efficiency, post-harvest handling, materials reduction, packaging process, warehouse space utilization, training & SOP development

Throughout the internship you will also support the Growing, IPM, Operations, and/or Mechanics teams to manage relevant activities based on department needs:

  • Propagation, crop maintenance, crop diagnostics, fertigation, pest ID
  • Departmental data entry and inventory for production processes
  • Generate ideas and conduct pilot studies to improve processes
  • Collect trial data for crop quality enhancement projects
  • Document Standard Operating Procedures and develop new protocols
  • Apply business strategies in risk mitigation and resource allocation
  • Must follow all Company safety procedures and recommendations and promote environmentally sustainable solutions

Qualifications

  • Requires a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Biology, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Crop Protection, Business, Agriculture, Computer Science, Engineering or other relevant subjects with a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • All applicants must be eligible to work in the US

Preferred Requirements:

  • Communication-The ability to communicate information well (both written and spoken) is highly desired
  • Detail Oriented-All procedures and policies must be understood and followed
  • Strong problem-solving skills and creative thinking
  • An independent individual who is self-motivating and needs little supervision
  • Previous internship and/or co-op experience related to Agriculture is preferred but not required
  • Ability to work outdoors in a hot and humid environment.
  • Confidence- Not afraid to ask bold questions and be curious
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in the role

The Syngenta Flowers team is currently seeking a Field Trials Intern to join our Research & Process Improvement team in Alva, FL. Our team implements efficiency and quality improvements within our local farm to deliver business objectives.
