We have an exciting opportunity for a Field Scientist to join Syngenta at our Whittlesford trialling site. You will carry out all elements of development trials in crop protection discipline, including site finding or preparation, placement, maintenance, assessment and reporting according to the required standards (e.g. GEP). You will general high quality field trials data and ensure timely delivery; contribute to the planning, implementation and reporting of field trials within EAME profiling and product development programs; contribute (based on technical knowledge and agronomical know how) to develop new and innovative solutions.

Accountabilities

  • To conduct and manage an agreed number of field trials through all stages from initial planning to completion of final report, to local quality standards and HSE standards, with minimal or no supervision.
  • Lead in trial excellence for objective achievement.
  • To contribute to project and trial planning and design.
  • To ensure rapid availability of data and interpretation for Global and EAME use (ARM & presentations).
  • To provide scientific data interpretation and recommendations for next steps in a project.
  • To support the conduct of field trial visits.
  • To develop and flag innovative ideas for portfolio opportunities and solutions, based on product and agronomical know how.
  • To effectively manage multi-trial sites on commercial farms, including site design, farmer liaison and compensation negotiations.
  • Plan, plant, manage and maintain crops for optimum trial success.
  • To assist in the training of new staff.
  • Contribute to writing and maintenance of standard operating procedures
  • To keep trial facility in order and running, according to local quality standards and HSE standards.
  • To care for trial experimental and maintenance equipment.
  • To store experimental chemical and plant material according local quality standards and HSE standards.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience of completing arable field trials and proficient ARM (prefreable).
  • Agricultural school or Bachelor/Master degree in Agronomy or Biology
  • Scientific mindset, applicable in planning, undertaking, interpreting and reporting of field trials.
  • Excellent communication/inter-personal skills – written, verbal, presentation.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Data interpretation and analysis for both regulatory and commercial use.
  • Good English language skills (written and verbal).

Additional Information

 

  • The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate that they are eligible to live and carry out the particular role in the UK.
  • Some travel, mostly within UK
  • Significant outdoors work likely; appropriate PPE will be provided
  • Role requires flexibility in working hours, particularly during harvest periods; evening and weekend work required
  • A full UK car driver licence
