Accountabilities

  • Learn and understand the Biology data landscape, key data attributes and experimental capabilities to identify opportunities for enabling and enhancing our science through the deployment of analytical methods 
  • Evaluate new data analysis tools—validate findings using a trial and iterative approach and effectively communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Identify data needs and provide recommendations to scientists to ensure the quantity and verify the integrity of data used for analyses through the application of statistical methods 
  • Work collaboratively as part of the Biology Digital teams and the wider data community to deliver reporting and analytical decision support tools, deploy new approaches, share learning, and drive innovation in digital and data science including technology foresight 
  • Drive data quality initiatives to improve data reliability and enable its reuse.
  • Facilitate access to data by scientists through detailed knowledge of data landscape and infrastructure. 
  • Support business users with change management initiatives to manage data more effectively.
  • You will work with stakeholders across different groups and locations to map the data landscape and work with R&D IT to ensure all data assets are appropriately captured, in addition to the development of analysis pipelines, building dashboards, and teaching individual scientists how to use them. Successful applicants will become part of the data science community within Syngenta.

Qualifications

Education & Experience 

  • MSc/PhD (or equivalent experience) in natural sciences with a focus on the analysis of data and data integration, data science and/or machine learning and experience in the integration and analysis of ‘omic data. Postdoctoral experience in life sciences research or experience in an R&D environment would be a plus.

Required Skills 

  • Enthusiasm for visual analytics and data science
  • Dynamic personality with passion for innovation and problem-solving
  • A good understanding of experimentally derived biological data, data types and appropriate analytical methods, fundamental statistical concepts including multivariate analysis
  • Ability to work in multi-functional teams
  • Thorough understanding and hands-on experience with the standard R/Python data science stack, including libraries used for data cleaning and visualization. 
  • Understanding of data-driven web apps and corresponding tooling, e.g. R Shiny/Plotly/Dash, including deployment. 
  • Familiarity with relational and non-relational data systems and understanding of good data management practices for scientific data
  • Experience with version control systems, notebooks and creating reproducible digital workflows
  • Proficiency in both written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage and contribute to projects autonomously

 
Desirable skills

  • Experience in the analysis of imaging data
  • Experience in the analysis of mass spec and proteomics data
  • Knowledge in Cell Biology, Entomology, Phytopathology, and Developmental Biology
