The Commercial Capability and Training Lead is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing training and capability-building initiatives for the frontline sales and marketing field force in the seeds business. This role ensures that commercial teams have the skills, knowledge, and tools necessary to execute Syngenta go-to-market strategy effectively. As a key member of the Commercial Excellence team, the role will drive the Building Excellence Program, focusing on improving sales competencies, customer engagement, product knowledge, digital acumen and execution discipline to enhance business performance.

Accountabilities
1. Sales and Marketing Capability Development

  • Develop and implement structured training programs for the sales and marketing teams, aligned with Syngenta’s commercial strategies and business objectives.
  • Design and deliver training modules covering amongst others value selling/consultative selling, negotiation skills, territory management, customer segmentation, agronomic advisory, and competitor differentiation.
  • Build competency frameworks and career development pathways for sales and marketing personnel, ensuring progressive capability building.
  • Collaborate with regional and global commercial excellence teams to adopt best practices and adapt them for local execution.

2. Training Program Execution & Delivery

  • Lead the Building Excellence Program by designing and delivering workshops, field coaching sessions, e-learning modules, and interactive training initiatives.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual training sessions for both newly hired and experienced sales professionals.
  • Develop and manage a structured onboarding program for new sales and marketing hires to accelerate their productivity.
  • Utilize digital learning platforms and innovative training methodologies to enhance engagement and effectiveness.

3.  Field Coaching & Performance Reinforcement

  • Work closely with sales leaders and field agronomists to provide on-the-job coaching and mentorship to sales and field marketing reps.

  • Implement a structured Field Training & Assessment Framework to track the practical application of training insights in customer interactions.

  • Establish a system for continuous feedback and improvement by evaluating training effectiveness through field performance metrics and participant feedback.

4.  Commercial Process & Execution Discipline

  • Train sales teams on the Syngenta Commercial Execution Standards, including call planning, CRM utilization, and customer relationship management.
  • Drive the adoption of data-driven decision-making by training teams on market intelligence tools, customer insights, and sales analytics.
  • Ensure frontline teams effectively implement Go-to-Market (GTM) strategies, including product positioning, pricing, promotions, and demand generation tactics.

5.  Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with the Sales, Marketing, Technical, and Product Development teams to align training programs with business priorities.
  • Work closely with HR and People Development teams to integrate commercial training into broader talent development initiatives.
  • Engage with Syngenta’s global and regional training networks to leverage existing resources and best practices.

6.  Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

  • Measure the impact of training programs through KPIs such as sales performance, customer engagement effectiveness, and competency assessments.
  • Continuously refine training content and methodologies based on feedback, business needs, and evolving market conditions.
  • Develop and implement a certification program to recognize high-performing sales and marketing professionals.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in sales, marketing, or commercial training within the seeds, crop protection or related industry.
  • Strong understanding of value-based selling, customer engagement strategies, and go-to-market execution in the agricultural sector.
  • Experience in developing and delivering sales training programs, including field coaching.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and coaching skills.
  • Ability to analyze sales performance data and translate insights into actionable training initiatives.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools, digital learning platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience working in a multinational seed company with exposure to regional or global training programs.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
  • Knowledge of hybrid seed technology, agronomy, and the Philippine agricultural market.

1. Increase in sales team productivity and effectiveness.
2. Improved customer engagement scores and conversion rates.
3. Adoption and utilization of CRM and commercial excellence tools.
4. High participant satisfaction and learning retention from training programs.
5. Consistent application of Syngenta’s Commercial Execution Standards in the field.

Additional Information

  • Travel Requirements: 50-60%
  • Zone visits: Assess training needs, deliver on-site training, or evaluate program effectiveness, execute train-the-trainors sessions or deliver specialized/bespoke training modules
  • Conferences and 3rd party meetings: Stay updated on latest training methodologies and industry trends, evaluate new and emerging training tools
  • All applicants must be eligible to work anywhere in the Philippines
