To support that challenge, the HR Operations team is currently seeking a Payroll/Pension & Benefits Specialist.  

We have a Flexible Work Location approach and this role can be remotely based in Guelph, ON, Calgary, AB and or remotely across Canada. 

What will you do:

  • Manage the timely and accurate payroll for all active employees, seasonal, and international assignees twice monthly through the internal HR system (Workday) and Ceridian Dayforce
  • Reconcile payroll accounts in the G/L on a monthly basis and at year-end in SAP in collaboration with Finance
  • Submit timely and accurate remittances to provincial health plans and WCB and reconcile Federal and Provincial source deductions
  • Coordinate the production of annual earnings statements (T4) with Ceridian Dayforce in accordance with government regulations and submit to employees in a timely and accurate manner
  • Continuously stay abreast of changes to Federal and Provincial legislation and new laws, regulations and employee standards which effect payroll, benefit and pensions
  • Provide expertise and support to the members of the HR team with respect to payroll, pension and benefit matters
  • Administer a Flex Benefit program for all active and retired employees
  • Provide support and expertise for escalated pension and benefit issues
  • Liaison with benefit vendors, and keep abreast of opportunities and changes to plan design
  • Communicate with organizational stakeholders regarding any changes to payroll and benefits

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education preferred, or equivalent experience in administration/customer service/HR
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in payroll, with previous background in pension and benefit administration.
  • National Payroll Institute (NPI) Certified Payroll Management designation for Canada
  • Knowledge of Canada Federal and Provincial employment legislation, employment standards, year-end reporting of T4’s/Releve1’s/government returns and summaries, and employment insurance
  • Knowledge of company pension and benefit programs
  • Knowledge of in-house payroll programs (experience with Ceridian is an asset)
