Role Purpose

  • Lead the Value Chain engagement and collaboration to drive a win win commercial scenario
  • Create business revenue opportunities with Value Chain players for output buyout and protocol alignments of the Syngenta portfolio
  • Scan the APMC (Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee) markets and strategies to collaborate for bigger reach
  • Should be able to drive multiple relationships across key value chain players for various crops and geographies within the country
  • Be a point of contact for technical team, lead farmer associations and sourcing teams within Value Chain companies
  • Drive cocreation of farm and farmer practices with technical teams and value chain companies
  • Lead the agenda on sustainable sourcing with soil health, traceability and efficiency in carbon emissions as key drivers

    Accountabilities

  • Lead the team that will help deliver quality output produce for food companies, by managing farmers and farms
  • Create the Business plan and modus operandi to deliver the target for the responsible geography / strategic products.
  • Manage relationship with internal cross functional teams.
  • Drive profitability through value chain collaborations and output sales to value chain companies
  • Develop, manage and scale up deeper relationships with Value Chain companies
  • Be a critical connect between farmers and value chain agenda and derive a win win for mutually profitable solutions
  • Should be able to manage demand and supply situations to avoid losses for the farmers
  • Should be able to guide farmers and value chain companies on key ag trends and practices
  • Support marketing activities by providing insights, feedback and commercial guidance
  • Implement and support Digital Ag Strategy (tracking of protocol adherence digitally, use of weather alerts, remote sensors and satellite imaging, farm data management, forecasting models)

    Critical success factors & key challenges

  • Passion to support farmers and sustainably modernize agriculture across APAC
  • Deep knowledge of end-to-end farming, output produce, sourcing, food purchase by food companies
  • Should have complete knowledge of the Law of Land viz., inputs, services and output marketing and sales, marketplace, mandis, trading hubs etc
  • Should be able to manage the conflicts – govt. / institutes / FPOs / co-operative societies etc.
  • Strong ability to understand customer needs, structure and business drivers
  • Able to use market research effectively to understand customer, markets, channels
  • Able to work in a start-up-like environment
  • Ability to lead and drive commercial relationships with value chain companies

Qualifications

 

  • Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities:

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience, with a sound commercial understanding of sourcing and purchase of major crops in Bangladesh, having experience in food companies is a plus
  • Understanding of Agribusiness strategies, trends and of the principles of value creation for growers.
  • Understanding of overall farming /value chain lifecycle (farm to fork)
  • Understanding of requirements of value chain companies and consumer needs
  • A willingness to challenge basic concepts (“status quo”) and look for new opportunities to improve the farming systems from technical and business perspectives, in service of improving farmers profitability
  • Technical understanding with business acumen is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams, to influence and set strategy
  • Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural environment and matrix organization.
  • Proven track record of sourcing and purchasing with value chain companies
  • Track record of creating value-adding solutions internally and creating lasting partnerships
  • Understanding of Digital in Agtech

Additional Information

Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities:

  • improving farmers profitability
  • Technical understanding with business acumen is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams, to influence and set strategy
  • Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural environment and matrix organization. 
  • Familiarity with information technology and data management with ability to use them to solve key farmers’ pain-points
  • Proven track record of sourcing and purchasing with value chain companies
  • Track record of creating value-adding solutions internally and creating lasting partnerships
  • Understanding of Digital in Agtech

    Qualifications:

  • Degree in Science or Agriculture or Business-related field
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in Value Chain commercial area, Agribusiness area (practical experience in buying, selling or sourcing of agri. products)
  • Experience with a value chain company leading sourcing or buying or commercial team
  • Preferred if candidate has experience in agri operations, procurement and supply chain
