Area Production Manager - Vegetable Seeds

Job description

Role purpose:

  • To manage & monitor the seed production activities to achieve the reliability and quality
  • To do grower and area achievement and allocate the seed production program among the vendors at location as per the evaluation based on their historical performance and potential
  • Implement and monitor field production activities with vendors, growers & other stakeholders
  • To document & preparation for process audits in Seed Production, CSR, HSE & compliance
  • To prepare & share periodical report on seed production updates at location
  • To ensure seed production, HSE & CSR activities as per the policies, procedures & protocols in SOP for respective crop
  • To manage, motivate and train Field production third party staff on SOP’s, Policies to aware & achieve the planned target
  • Train team on Continuous improvement, Operational Excellence, Agile practices helping them to achieve their targets in efficient manner
  • Coordinate and support plant processing, logistics and quality teams
  • Keep abreast of seed operations trends, create sustainable seed processing protocols which helps to deliver the standards
  • Satisfactory knowledge about seed treatment and coating
  • Identify and prioritize critical projects with a focus on continuous improvement in quality, and process efficiency
  • Coordinate and alignment with Quality control, & supply chain objectives

Responsibilities:

  • To ensure area and grower achievement on time in line with specific Vegetable crop requirement
  • Execute the specific crop field agronomy strategies to achieve defined quality and quantity
  • To manage a team of production supervisors as per requirement
  • To identify and manage grower level technical issues in his area of field production
  • To manage and ensure timely parent seed supply, field agronomy practices, harvesting and procurement of hybrids seeds
  • Execute department SOP’s for achieving full compliance and functional excellence in key areas
  • Coordinate for the plan, basic seed & other non-seed material to be received at location as per the need
  • Generates effective communications, good relations, and a positive image with internal stake holders, suppliers and co- workers, promoting teamwork
  • Identify and initiate corrective action of non-conformance in documentation and processes
  • Comply with all Health, Safety, Environment, Security and CSR policies of organization and drive down the line and also ensure timely reporting of related information
  • Conduct high quality of field trials, identify right fields & growers, and ensure proper field production practices, harvesting and post harvesting as per company protocols
  • Coordinate and or support seeds processing and quality activities as and when required
  • Always maintain product security and confidentiality. Ensure 100% compliance while conducting and performing all the activities.
  • Manage scheduling activities to ensure timely availability of materials for smooth and continuous business flow. Work towards cost efficacy and achieving budget guidelines

Qualifications

Qualification :
Master of Science (MSC) in Agriculture

Experience and Skills: 

  1. 2 to 5 years working experience in Vegetable seeds agronomy and exposure to seeds post-harvest operations
  2. Experience in Vegetable seed production, ability to interface with growers, supervisory staff, and other functions
  3. Self-Driven, good interpersonal and communication skills, team Player and stakeholder orientation
  4. Operational Excellence skills, change and project management capabilities
  5. Broad knowledge of Health, Safety, Environment as well as sustainability systems
  6. Knowledge and exposure in Six sigma or Lean or Agile are preferred 
  7. Must possess working knowledge of computer especially MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc). SAP or relevant system knowledge is desirable
  8. Exposure and experience in digital solutions in Agriculture is an added advantage
