We are currently seeking an Analytical Biochemist for the Crop Trait Discovery team. The full-time position is in the Innovation Center, Beijing, China. As an Analytical Biochemist, you will establish and lead plant metabolite analysis in the laboratory.
 
You will help meet the world’s most pressing needs by:

  • Developing, validating, and implementing quantitative methods for the evaluation of see and product composition in corn, soybean, and other crops
  • Providing scientific leadership to the group
  • Driving execution within diverse functions, projects, and networks in plant molecular biology, genetics, physiology, and phenotyping

 Accountabilities

  • Provide scientific leadership to cross-functional teams comprised of members from Seeds Research, Seeds Product Development and Seeds Commercial
  • Lead multiple multi-disciplinary projects and programs within and across function
  • Independently develop innovative phenotyping methods at the molecular, biochemical, tissue, plant and/or population level for corn, soy, cereals and/or other key crops
  • Develop and implement innovative changes that enable the organization to deliver on its current accountabilities and enable it to meet even higher performance standards
  • Support wet-lab work of team members to develop proxy assays for key quality traits
  • Seek out, identify, communicate, and encourage examples of best practice from internal and external sources of information

Qualifications

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology
  • 15+ years of experience conducting experiments in wet lab, controlled growth and/or field environments
  • 15+ years of experience applying state-of-the-art measurement technologies to characterize plant metabolites
  • Demonstrated ability to implement automation and programming solutions to increase throughput and efficiency of data delivery
  • Bilingual: Mandarin and English

Preferred Requirements

  • Development experience in similar technical areas in lab-, bench-, pilot-, and full-scale environments; scale-up and scale-down knowledge in sample quantity and throughput
  • Demonstrated expertise creating Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) systems and integrating them with instrumentation and peripherals to facilitate accurate and reliable data capture
  • Experience with Research and Development pipelines and constraints or timelines associated with material quantities required for analysis and turnaround times
  • Advanced expertise of principles and activities in analytical chemistry instrumentation
  • Experience in cross functional and multi-cultural project management
