Job description

We are seeking a Senior Research Scientist to join the Trait Discovery team of Syngenta Group Beijing Innovation center, China.  The primary responsibilities of this role are to provide scientific expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry and protein engineering for gene discovery, optimization and mode-of-action studies for insect control traits via teamwork with local and global research teams in Syngenta Group.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Protein Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related biology majors
  • Postdoc or 5yr+ work experience in agriculture industry or academia is preferred
  • In-depth knowledge and technical expertise in protein sciences, biochemistry and molecular biology
  • Proficient in using bioinformatics tools.  Programming skills are a plus
  • Experiences and capabilities to work independently on the experimental design and analysis, trouble shooting, ideation and new scientific proposal development   
  • Prior experiences related with developing crop biotech traits are strongly preferred
  • Prior experiences in driving research and collaboration across teams are preferred
  • Strong writing and oral communication and interpersonal skills, in both Chinese and English
  • Self-motivated, hard working, down-to-earth, mature and team-oriented

Additional Information

  • Provides scientific and experimental expertise on the discovery, characterization and optimization of trait proteins in vitro  
  • Drives innovation and science excellence on the next-generation insect-control trait discovery and mode-of-action studies
  • Work with independecy to develop project proposals, design and run scientific experiments, and handle experimental trouble shooting     
  • Ensures timely project delivery through extensive cross-team collaboration and alignment with technical experts and key stakeholders
  • Maintains accurate experimental records and performs all activities in compliance with company quality management, IP and HSE guidance
  • Early morning/late evening teleconferences are often required to ensure efficient communication via global R&D teamwork
