Job description

As part of our activities in Bad Salzuflen Germany, Syngenta is looking for a:

Trialing Manager (f/m/d) Central Europe

Role purpose:

The Trialing Manager is leading a team of phenotyping (associate) scientists and field agronomists, ensuring the successful data collection and execution of trials, while driving continuous improvement in trial quality, efficiency, and innovation.

Responsibilities/main tasks:

  • Lead a team of phenotyping (associate) scientists and field agronomists, guaranteeing harmonization in the WoW.
  • Define trialing capabilities, conduct feasibility assessments, manage the budget, and hire temporary workers.
  • Manage infrastructure and ensure proper investment in infrastructure and rolling stock for Field Operations Level 2.
  • Secure key tasks for the good conduct of trials such as location creation, field mapping, ranking of field for planting, transport logistics, effective contact with farmers and subcontractors, correct maintenance of internal trials.
  • Oversee the collection of phenotyping data, crop management applications, and external data from subcontractors and exchange partners.
  • Ensure that planting, soil analysis, phenotyping, and harvest data, as well as quality trait data from external labs are stored and submitted.
  • Control, that raw data are provided to officials, and that data from subcontracted and exchanged trials are well managed.
  • Guide and support the team to explore and develop new technologies to enhance quality, precision, and time for trialing including data collection.
  • Report to the Region the status and progress on trial quality, budget, innovative projects and escalate issues & concerns.

Qualifications

Knowledge and experience expected:

  • Masters degree +
  • 10+ years in experience in agronomy
  • Profound experience in Operations
  • Full proficiency in German and English
  • Technical expertise: strong background in agronomy, including cross-crops knowledge, soil science, farming practices and machinery, as well as expertise in data-related aspects such as collection methodologies (including digital phenotyping techniques), quality, and storage solutions.
  • Leadership in a diverse environment: demonstrate strong leadership skills in managing a broad team of phenotyping (associate) scientists and field agronomists spread across different geographies and cultures. Excel in creating a collaborative and inclusive work environment, fostering effective communication, and ensuring the team's success.
  • Communication skills: Excellent communication skills are essential for collaborating with team members, presenting findings, and reporting data accurately to stakeholders as required.
  • Project management: experienced in overseeing complex projects across multiple countries. Skilled in planning trials, conducting feasibility assessments, managing budgets, and coordinating resources. Responsible for ensuring that trials are properly conducted, and data is collected accurately.
  • Analytical mindset: possess advanced knowledge of data management and analysis techniques. This includes overseeing data submission, storage, and analysis processes. Have knowledge in analyzing and interpreting data to provide valuable insights and recommendations.
  • Regulatory compliance: Knowledge of relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards related to trialing and data management, ensuring compliance and adherence to ethical and legal requirements.
  • openness for business trips in the region 10-20%
