Role purpose

  • Lead the trialing team/group to implement and review the trialing priorities to deliver the Corn India portfolio objectives
  • Lead and coordinate the preparation of trials plan with demand team for proper allocation of resources to implement field trials program for seeds and other technologies to deliver portfolio priorities, milestones and objectives
  • Drive excellence and operational efficiency by promoting best practices of Trialing in India as per Seeds development project needs
  • Ensure continuous improvement in trialing team through innovation, efficient processes and capability development programs
  • Ensure KPI delivery on time by delivering high quality trials data and recommendations
  • Following compliance and promote safety, QM and stewardship culture in all trialing sites as per Syngenta policy
  • Ensure strong functional connection and coordination between various SD functions within India, such as Mechanization, Germplasm Development, Product Placement, Discovery breeding, Portfolio management, Nursery operations and Traits Development, Agronomy and Product management and other regional/global functions in delivering a safe, sustainable, reliable and efficient trialing operations
  • Co-develop and support the India Seeds development strategy
  • Translate the business strategy for Corn into development priorities; Participate actively in the India Seeds development Leadership Team
  • Develop a high performance development team to foster collaborations across regions.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Lead and develop trialing team and network as per country portfolio objectives to implement best in class trialing operations and in aligned to Operations of Future
  • Plan trialing program for India in line with budget and resource in conjunction with GD, Discovery Breeding, Traits Development, PPS, Mechanization, Technology and Functional Planning and Marketing teams
  • To prepare annual and three year functional and capital budget forecasts in consultation with demand team in line with crops and expected 3rd party trials
  • Ensure coordination and implementation of trial programs with appropriate trials planning and design to facilitate data integrity and correct interpretation. Actively provide inputs in protocol development for trials by considering the resources, addressing seasonal information requirement and overall project objectives and timelines.
  • Generate high quality precise data to help identify and recommend new products/ indications with assured performance in a given geography or environment. Ensure delivery of data timely and accurately into Syngenta data systems for reporting and global sharing of information.
  • Ensure update of trials in appropriate tools as evolving work placement and tracking of trials in country/territory.
  • Setting the team KPI by ensuring the delivery in alignment with country territory portfolio objectives. Monitor the performance of Trialing team.
  • Ensure effective stakeholder relationship management with Mechanization, Germplasm Development, Product Placement, Discovery breeding, Portfolio management, Nursery operations and Traits Development, Agronomy and Product management and sales team by providing needed support, product performance and require specific agronomic and product knowledge.
  • Plan trialing excellence program for team to increase operational excellence and motivate employee to aspire to high performance.
  • Implement global / regional change program and process collaboration and implementation at country level. Actively represent country trialing team/group in regional and global network.
  • Plan and implement innovative field initiatives, including mechanization, automation and other capital projects that will enable an effective product evaluations and improvement of data quality to be used for product advancement decisions
  • Responsible for delivering the trialing operations budget and OKRs for SD
  • Ensure compliance by promoting safety and stewardship culture in all trialing sites as per Syngenta policy and strictly following local guidelines across trialing operations.
  • Ensure all trialists to implement QM initiative to enhance trial quality through proactive non-conformity and issue management.
  • Ensure all trialists to operate Trial rating tool to evaluate trial protocol, trial execution and report.
  • Liaise with agricultural research groups and industry bodies, Government / Regulatory Authorities and Non Government Organisations to monitor changes in technology and support the development of Syngenta trials (registration trials) and technologies.

  • Ensure proper product promotion in advance stage with supporting data and feedback
  • Ensure proper and timely crop visits in trials with Sales, Marketing, Agronomy and Seeds development teams
  • Develop effective working relationship with regional and Global Business Partners counterparts
  • Ensure compliance and actively participate in HSES programs to improve individual safety and identify workplace for hazards and mitigation opportunities

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

Critical knowledge

  • Should be M.Sc.Ag. preferably a Ph.D. in agronomy, plant breeding, horticulture or closely related discipline, with demonstrated success in applied field research
  • In depth understanding of technical aspects of crops, pesticides, agronomy and pests
  • Efficient in program planning and execution with proper Human Resource Management
  • Extensive knowledge of Agricultural Statistics and Design of experiments
  • Team building and good communication skills
  • Experience in team management required with a focus on cross functional teams
  • Through understanding of SD processes and sufficient knowledge to identify the critical issues and engage effectively with people.

Critical experience

  • 10 – 15 years working experience in Plant Biology Research with experience of managing larger trilaing teams
  • Deeper understanding of crops and technical aspects.
  • Ability to build relationship and execute in a complex and broad geography and peoples, with a focus on operational excellence.

Critical capabilities

  • Should have capabilities to bring strong drive and determination in the team/group
  • Sound knowledge of crops agronomy, pesticides and technical aspects
  • Proficiency in use of office software and Standard Information Technology tools
  • Extensive knowledge of Agricultural Statistics and statistical software
  • Effective stake holder’s management with Sales, Marketing, and Seeds Development
  • Proactive and good foresight and good stakeholder management
