Phenomics Data Analysis for Predictive Breeding Internship

 

Type: 4-6 months – preferable starting in September 2023

Department: Vegetables and Flowers Seeds Development

Location: Enkhuizen (NL) - This internship position offers a flexible work arrangement with the option for partial remote work.

 

Into Action

The Applied Genetics team is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join Syngenta as an Intern in Phenomics Data Analysis for Predictive Breeding. This internship provides an exciting opportunity to work in agricultural research and contribute to developing an analytical pipeline and interpreting results of high-throughput phenotypic data in Vegetable crops.

 

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Perform preprocessing, analysis, and interpretation of Phenomics selection outputs to identify valuable traits and patterns.
  • Collaborate with the Breeding and Applied Genetics teams to develop predictive breeding models based on Phenomics data.
  • Conduct statistical analysis to evaluate the performance and accuracy of predictive models.
  • Contribute to the improvement of existing data analysis pipelines and algorithms.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports summarizing analysis results and recommendations.

Qualifications

Your Profile

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Data Science, Plant Breeding, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Strong background in data analysis and statistical modeling.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Julia or Python for data analysis.
  • Familiarity with data visualization techniques and tools.
  • Knowledge of predictive modeling and machine learning algorithms.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage and organize large datasets.

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data analysis and predictive breeding using Phenomics selection. You will collaborate with a dynamic and passionate team, contribute to innovative breeding strategies, and broaden your knowledge in agricultural research.
