To classify and support management of Customs Classification and Controlled Substances globally to ensure the efficient, economic, and compliant movement of Syngenta products across international borders, we are currently looking for a Trade Compliance Officer to join our Legal team in Basel.

Accountabilities

  • Be a member of the Trade Compliance Operations team which is mandated to protect Syngenta’s trade interests, expand Syngenta’s freedom to operate across borders and lead trade compliance.
  • Independently manage the Customs Classification of Syngenta products based on the World Custom Organization’s rules and National customs regulations and take responsibility to ensure Syngenta’s compliance in correct classifications at global as well as national level.
  • Assess if internationally Controlled Substances require an export/import license and manage Controlled Substances related to export/import permit process to ensure Syngenta compliance.
  • Manage and update internal Standard Operative Procedures.
  • Promote Customs Classification and Controlled Substances awareness with stakeholders.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Successfully completed vocational school of Chemistry or Bachelors’ degree in chemistry
  • Knowledge of chemical structures, chemical nomenclature and basic chemistry knowledge is mandatory
  • Being independent, well –organized, analytical, attentive to details is essential
  • Expert knowledge in all Microsoft Office tools (especially) Excel is essential, SAP knowledge is a plus
  • Fluency in English is essential. German language skills are preferred. Other languages are considered as a plus
  • Ability to work under time constraints, manage positively changes
  • Willingness to operate in complex environment and to build professional network with other departments and functions
  • Knowledge of Customs Classification and Controlled Substances would be a plus
  • Basic understanding of international movement of chemical and/or biological products would be a plus
  • Experience in trade affairs, trade compliance and trade regulations as well as understanding of logistic and supply chain would be a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication
