Role purpose

  • Develop and implement strategies for sourcing of raw materials, intermediates and active ingredients (AI), with a focus on, but not exclusively, activities in India in support of supply chain strategies.
  • Drive major (technical) change projects, HSE improvements at suppliers and lead the technology transfer to 3rd parties 
  • Support all global sourcing activities (supplier screening, HSE follow-up, technical capabilities evaluation, etc.) from India Develop Technology and Sourcing skills to support broader global sourcing activities (supplier screening, HSE follow-up, technical capabilities evaluation, tech transfer, etc.) from India
  • To work closely with Global T&S, India HSE auditors, Procurement and other global functions to delivery the India sourcing strategy.

Dimensions

  • Financial: Support India sourcing business of ca. 300 m$, with corresponding sales value of Syngenta products of >$1bn
  • People: Direct reports 0, indirect variable in multifunctional teams
  • Geographic Scope: Primarily India with regular remote (phone, email) contact with Global colleagues. Some international travel. Collaboration with >20 Indian chemical companies, all Syngenta P&S functions in all regions and  Syngenta Legal and Taxes, HSE, Regulatory and Product Management functions

Accountabilities

  • Develop strategies for sourcing of intermediate and AI aligning to global sourcing principles   
  • Lead major technical projects independently in India to establish sustainable chemical processes on behalf of global supply chain
  • Manage both internal (procurement, supply chain, regulatory, production, process technology, analytics, etc) and external (supplier management, 3rd party services, etc) stakeholders involved in the project and communicate the progress periodically
  • Coordinate knowledge/information transfer between internal teams and 3rd party
  • Evaluate technical and HSE capabilities of (potential) suppliers in India as a part of global supplier screening
  • Support 3rd auditor in planning the audits and follow-up the findings with the suppliers as per the global sourcing priorities. Track the actions proactively and communicate the status to the stakeholders periodically
  • Represent India sourcing in global souring activities
  • Represent T&S in the India Sourcing Leadership team, developing and implementing a compelling strategy
  • Provide to the global T&S group foresight of changes and developments in the Indian chemical industry, including regulatory and governmental changes.

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience & capabilities:

Critical knowledge

  • Chemist / Chemical Engineer 1st degree
  • Process technology, production, manufacturing, purchasing
  • Indian Chemical Industry Knowledge
  • Proficient in chemistry, process engineering and HSE
  • Experience in coaching and developing high quality technical talent.
  • Independence in leading teams to identify the critical success factors, develop alternatives and select optimal way forwards.

Critical experience:

  • Experience in a process development and production environment, minimum 5 years
  • Leadership of multi-functional teams, by influence, not direct line management
  • Experience of industrial process safety (3-5 years)
  • Ability to manage and develop people
  • Project management
  • Strategic thinking
  • Commercial awareness
  • Relationship management with supplier companies
  • Relationship management across multiple internal Syngenta functions and location

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities:

  • Project Management Skills: Balancing the priorities of a large number of projects.
  • Be able to develop a trusted position internally and externally, ability to work to high ethical standards.
  • Good communication skills. Must be able to interact well internally and externally.
  • Ability to work at the interface between Syngenta and external companies – external auditing capability.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate across functions within Syngenta – HSE auditors in other countries, HSE functions in countries, regions and global and various Production and Supply groups functions and supply chain teams.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written).
  • Ability and confidence to work alone at suppliers
