As the Stewardship Manager, you are responsible for developing and implementing stewardship projects that further Syngenta’s Freedom to Operate within the foundation of our Sustainable and Responsible Business agenda.  The expectation is to bring positive impacts to our customers while advocating product stewardship with education and outreach.

In this role you will be interacting with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders involved in pesticide use, outreach, and best management practices for product stewardship. Work areas include product stewardship best practices, pesticide education and outreach using traditional and digital media tools, knowledge of pest management systems and farming practices, economic benefits assessments, and coordination of atrazine water monitoring and farmer training.

Duties:

  • Develop and lead implementation of regulatory programs, science, stewardship, best management practices and outreach initiatives related to atrazine water monitoring programs.
  • Work with external consultant and lead in-person farmer training on atrazine stewardship practices.
  • Collaborate with atrazine partners and provide stewardship support.
  • In collaboration with Syngenta colleagues, develop and lead implementation of stewardship best management practices and outreach initiatives for EPA ecological mitigations including spray drift and run-off mitigations for Syngenta products. 
  • Provide expertise in the areas of cover crops, soil and water mitigations through innovative technologies and practices and external collaborations.
  • Collaborate with Syngenta Canada stewardship colleagues to provide alignment and support for common North America objectives including biodiversity, soil, and water mitigations.
  • Collaborate with Syngenta stewardship and sustainability colleagues in development of Good Growth Plan metrics, economic benefits reports, and other stewardship areas of expertise.
  • Provide guidance and support for Syngenta state and federal regulatory, state and federal government relations, communications, legal, customer service, business partners, and product safety with respect to product stewardship and best management practices for Syngenta products including atrazine.
  • Interact with a broad range of external stakeholders including grower and commodity groups and other customers, NGO’s, government regulators and universities to develop an understanding of issues and recommend solutions.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A minimum of a master’s degree is required for this role.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in a natural science or agricultural field. Background in agronomy, agriculture, chemistry, pesticide, or regulatory science is highly preferred.
  • Up to 20% Travel is required for this role (primarily national, occasional international). 
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship support from Syngenta.

Preferred:

  • Candidate should have expertise in current and emerging application technologies and collaborate with Syngenta Application Technology colleagues and Digital Ag colleagues in the development of technical information and recommendations including tools and best management practices for non-target species mitigations.
  • Experience with water and soil mitigations, NRCS conservation practices and application technology in order to network both internally and externally.
  • Knowledge and understanding of science, technology, crop protection products, farming practices, pesticide statutes related to agriculture, agribusiness, and the environment.
  • Knowledgeable about laws related to pesticide regulation in the United States, including Endangered Species Act and other conservation regulatory and stewardship aspects associated with specific active ingredients.
