Please note: This position will support Syngenta’s South-Central US region. This role can be supported remotely. Optimal support location is in the Kansas City area or other major metropolitan areas in South-Central USA.

At Syngenta, we are working to create the most collaborative and trusted team in agriculture that provides leading seeds and crop protection innovations to enhance the prosperity of farmers. To support this challenge, Syngenta’s Sustainability and Corporate Affairs team is currently seeking a State Affairs Manager to support Syngenta’s South-Central region.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the management and implementation of the legislative and regulatory priorities in the South-Central US.
  • Interact with elected and appointed political officials, at the State Level. This position is also responsible for the management of relationships with key commodity and user group to protect and enhance Syngenta's business interests.
  • Work with other business units, including Crop Protection, Seeds, Syngenta Biotechnology sales, State and Federal Registration on projects, as directed by State Affairs Team Leader.
  • Work with the Stewardship Team on water quality and other product stewardship projects in the various States.
  • Responsible for management of Syngenta Contract Lobbyist and consultants in their various states and will serve as the key contact for state commodity groups and regional trade associations. This individual is also key Syngenta interface with State Secretaries, Directors & Commissioners of Agriculture along with other key state regulators.
  • Manage legislation in assigned states and enable Syngenta Freedom to Operate.
  • Coordinate Syngenta initiatives with Key Commodity Groups, Agribusiness Associations and Farm Bureaus, and Farmers Unions organizations at State Level.
  • Assist Sales, State Regulatory Affairs, and R&D with regulatory issues that impact Syngenta.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A minimum of a 4-year degree, preferably in Ag related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in Ag related field, preferably in Ag policy/advocacy at state or federal level.
  • Proficiency in public speaking and writing skills.
  • Up to 50% travel is required for this role.

Preferred:

  • Excellent knowledge of regulatory requirements for registration of pesticides and seed traits.
  • Experience in political/regulatory process.
  • Excellent knowledge of the US regulatory environment and processes.
  • Excellent knowledge of crop production systems, food supply chains, agricultural businesses and markets.
