Purpose 

  • To develop, lead, and continuously improve the capital projects delivery in Monthey site ensuring timely implementation of new or improved assets consistent with rapidly changing business requirements and within agreed cost and safety parameters.
  • To create a sustainable and highly performing engineering and maintenance organization on site  to deliver projects while meeting all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements as well as maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • To play a key role in the deployment of engineering best practices to maintain site’s assets, optimize production efficiency, and support Syngenta's commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship in the agricultural chemical industry.

Team Development and Leadership

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing engineering and maintenance team capable of meeting the site's evolving needs.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and professional growth within the maintenance department.
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration to enhance overall plant performance and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Leading Engineering and Maintenance organization including Maintenance Engineer, Reliability Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Planner, Analyst, Inventory Control Coordinator, Construction Manager, Maintenance Technicians, Electro-Mechanical Technicians, IT/OT Specialist

Strategic Asset Management

  • Develop and implement comprehensive engineering and maintenance strategies aligned with Global Engineering Excellence one and with Syngenta's long-term business objectives.
  • Optimize asset lifecycle management to maximize equipment reliability, availability, and performance.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve engineering and maintenance practices to enhance production efficiency and reduce downtime.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive a culture of operational excellence through proactive planning and execution.
  • Implement and manage state-of-the-art engineering and maintenance systems and technologies to improve predictive and preventive maintenance capabilities.
  • Collaborate with production teams to minimize disruptions and optimize production performance.

Safety and Compliance Leadership

  • Champion a zero-incident safety culture within the department and across the site.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and Syngenta's internal policies.
  • Lead by example in promoting safe work practices and fostering a safety-first mindset among all team members.

Financial Stewardship

  • Manage budgets effectively to optimize cost-efficiency without compromising quality or safety.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures through improved practices and strategic investments in equipment and technology.
  • Provide data-driven insights to support decision-making on capital investments and equipment replacements.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and best practices in the chemical manufacturing industry.
  • Spearhead the adoption of innovative solutions that can improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance safety.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that align with Syngenta's commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.

Risk Management and Business Continuity

  • Develop and maintain robust risk assessment processes for engineering and maintenance activities.
  • Create and implement contingency plans to ensure business continuity in the event of equipment failures or other disruptions.
  • Collaborate with other departments to mitigate potential risks to production, safety, and environmental compliance.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary liaison between the engineering and maintenance department and other functional areas within the site, Global Engineering teams and broader Syngenta organization.
  • Effectively communicate engineering and maintenance strategies to be deployed on site, performance metrics, and improvement initiatives to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and industry partners to ensure access to the best resources and expertise.

Qualifications

Experience / Previous jobs required for the job:

  • Senior leader, with previous experience of significant responsibility in production and supply chain
  • Track record in leading teams

Critical knowledge and education required for the job:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial or related field)
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial environment (chemical production), with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance best practices and management systems.
  • Familiarity with chemical manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and maintenance management software.
  • Experience with SAP PM module.
