Through leading innovations, we help farmers around the world meet the challenge of feeding a growing population and taking care of our planet. To support that challenge, Syngenta Seeds R&D team is currently seeking a Senior Scientist in Durham, NC.

This role will be responsible for advancing the discovery and characterization of novel insecticidal proteins through cellular and molecular approaches. This role will drive innovation in understanding protein-target interactions and mechanisms of action to support the development of new crop protection solutions.

Accountabilities 

•    Maintenance of insect cell culture ensuring optimal growth conditions and contamination control 
•    Utilize baculovirus expression systems for protein production 
•    Develop, optimize, and perform cell binding assays to characterize protein-target interactions 
•    Utilize confocal microscopy studies and image analysis 
•    Analyze and interpret complex experimental data using appropriate statistical methods 
•    Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners 
•    Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior scientists 
•    Maintain detailed laboratory records and establish standardized protocols 
•    Present research findings to internal stakeholders 
•    Identify and implement new methodologies to advance research capabilities 
•    Contribute to overall research strategy and experimental design 
•    Troubleshoot technical challenges and develop innovative solutions

Qualifications

•    A minimum of a PhD, preferably in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and/or related field
•    A minimum of 2 years of post-PhD experience
•    Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship support from Syngenta

Preferred Qualifications

•    Experience in insect cell culture and baculovirus expression systems
•    Advanced proficiency in cell culture techniques
•    Understanding of insect biology
•    Experience in standard microbiological, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques
•    Advanced knowledge in insect physiology
•    Strong background in confocal microscopy
•    Use of Cryostat in tissue culture preparation
•    Understanding of insecticidal protein mode of action/mode of resistance
•    Understanding of protein structure-function relationships
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
•    Excellent data analysis and interpretation skills
