The Role:

Syngenta are seeking a Chemist for Preparative Chromatography to play a role in the practical development and application of specialised analytical and characterisation techniques. Working at our international research and development site at Jealott’s Hill, Bracknell, you will be a member of the Analytical Solutions Group (ASG) providing analytical science solutions for colleagues both on site and elsewhere within Syngenta’s global organisation.

The successful candidate will:

  • Apply specialist Chemistry knowledge in all aspects of Preparative Chromatography to challenges focused on the isolation of by-products, impurities and metabolites of active ingredients.
  • Use a variety of chromatographic techniques such as HPLC, SFC, flash chromatography and other wet chemistries.
  • Develop methods and carry out chiral purifications.
  • Continually increase your knowledge of the Analytical Chemistry techniques and adjacent disciplines relevant to the characterisation of active ingredients and formulations in order to select and apply the most appropriate methods and maximize the effectiveness of the Analytical Solutions Group’s (ASG) contribution to projects.
  • Share and discuss the results from ASG studies with the relevant teams in order to ensure the objectives of the team’s projects are met and that the scientific and strategic goals of the work are reviewed in light of new analytical data.
  • Be customer-focused by actively seeking information relevant to the work in hand and discussing issues and problems with colleagues in the formulation, manufacturing and synthetic chemistry departments.
  • Apply problem solving skills to assess complex and diverse situations to overcome challenges.
  • Develop effective networks to ensure that you stay up to date with business requirements.
  • Deliver analytical results through your own experimental work and by supporting others. You will effectively utilise available resources to optimise productivity.

 


Qualifications

Education & experience required:

  • A degree (BSc), or equivalent, in Chemistry or a closely related subject. You may well have a master’s degree (MSc) or have undertaken industrial experience as part of your studies.
  • Experience or at least knowledge of different chromatographic techniques.
  • Understanding of preparative scale chromatography and associated drying procedures.
  • An open and inquisitive mind; applicants interested in expanding their knowledge into new areas of analytical science would be welcomed.
  • Good attention to detail, flexibility, an aptitude for planning and multi-tasking
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, a high level of numeracy and an ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • The ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team.
