We are recruiting a Process Engineer to join our Process Technology Active Ingredient (PTAI) group in Huddersfield. Huddersfield Manufacturing Centre has eight manufacturing plants making agricultural products for global distribution. As a Process Engineer within PTAI, you would have the opportunity to work in a multi-discipline team supporting large scale fine / speciality chemical manufacturing on a Top Tier COMAH site.

The focus of this role will be, as Process Engineer for a particular plant / area onsite, to partner with production, engineering and other support colleagues to support and drive day-to-day troubleshooting, process optimisation, and capital improvement projects from initial feasibility studies right through to commissioning. This gives a unique opportunity for Process Engineers, looking to develop their people and technical skills, to apply theoretical concepts in a real team environment with tangible business benefit.

Day-to-day, your role could involve:

  • Applying chemical engineering principles and underlying theory associated with the definition, design and operation of a wide range of unit operations (e.g. reactor design, separation, heat transfer, mixing processes and powder transfer, filtration & drying).
  • Applying knowledge of HSE standards (e.g. pressure relief definition & design, basis of safety definition, flammability, safety instrumented systems).
  • Taking process engineering role in process risk assessment teams, applying knowledge of process risk assessment systems (e.g. HAZOP etc.) to prepare process risk assessment documents.
  • Providing scope definition and process design data for capital project and plant modifications.
  • Driving change projects and process improvements from innovation to development to implementation.
  • Leading the commissioning of projects and modification to ensure that design intent is met and production is established safely and effectively.
  • Coaching & mentoring of graduate process engineers on our IChemE accredited graduate scheme.
  • Opportunities to line manage contract process engineers and year in industry students.

Qualifications

  • A candidate with a passion for Science & Technology and is proactive with their own self development and thrives in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
  • Must have degree level education in chemical or process engineering, at least BEng or MEng equivalent.
  • Typically, 4+ years' experience working as a Chemical Process Engineer in a chemical manufacturing environment or related role.
  • Must be Chartered Engineer and full Member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers (MIChemE) or actively working towards this.
  • Knowledge of process risk assessment systems (e.g. HAZOP etc.), and relevant HSE standards (safety instrument systems, pressure relief and DSEAR etc).

Desirable

Any one of these may make your application stand out, but are not essential, as they can be developed in the role:

  • Experience commissioning capital projects on a top tier COMAH site.
  • Practical experience & theoretical knowledge in batch chemical process engineering.
  • Ability to work independently and plan and control own work and work of others over weeks and months.
  • Experience delivering continuous improvement – awareness and use of a range of LEAN / Six Sigma or other tools, techniques and an understanding of the desired mindset.
  • As a global company, having the ability to speak foreign languages is a benefit – especially French, German and Chinese (Mandarin).
