Role purpose 
Lead alignment of North America breeding, field and genetic data with global data standards and provide support to trialing, applied genetics and breeding scientists with analysis and advancement. Support R&D in areas of data quality and data analysis.  The role will cooperate and communicate with business and R&D stakeholders as well as Syngenta experts and external consultants. 

Accountabilities

  • Support and manage biological data software tools including MINT and SPIRIT which provide experimental design, data collection, analysis, and reporting functionalities.
  • Identify and report data quality and process issues in MINT and SPIRIT and propose solutions.
  • Lead user acceptance testing, training and implementation of new software tools and capabilities on behalf of Corn Germplasm Development.
  • Provide training and documentation on biological data software.
  • Support the implementation of field trialing data operations and ensure high data quality and consistency, in accordance with global data standards.
  • Lead management of Corn Germplasm Development data for identity management and material tracking in biological trace and track processes and tools, including MINT.
  • Data mining and predictive data analysis.
  • Perform all activities in accordance with the Syngenta Health, Safety, Environmental Policy, our Asset Management policy and Quality Management/Stewardship guidelines.

    • Proactive and innovative and able to learn new computer applications quickly.  
    • Expertise with computer applications. 
    • Required to occasionally work beyond normal workday hours to support multiple research sites, departments, and Market Segment Teams.  
    • Ability to develop an effective network of contacts inside Syngenta, including those in Analytics and Data Sciences, Germplasm Development, Trialing and Operations.  
    • Ability to optimize the efficiency of the Market Segment Teams, and other Syngenta departments.
    • Apply understanding of agricultural production, crop breeding, or other plant science field-based research

    Critical knowledge

    • Working knowledge of applied agronomic trialing, plant breeding, and associated data management.
    • Knowledge of agronomic production practices.
    • Extensive knowledge in using Microsoft Office products.
    • Practical understanding of computer hardware and software, principles, and terminology.

    Critical experience

    • Requires B.A./B.S. degree in an agricultural or plant-science related field.  Requires M.S. in plant breeding, or 3 years of experience in a role which included the applied use of data management systems, field trial data, and MS Office programs.  A demonstrated high level of written and verbal communications is required.

    Additional information

    • Up to 15% travel will be required both domestically and internationally.
    • A minimum of 2 years in current position is required (requirement for internal applicants only).
    • All applicants must be eligible to work in the US.
    • Multilingual ability is beneficial.
