We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled Biologicals Formulation Scientist to join our Formulation Development Group.  You will take responsibility in the design and development of formulations that are suitable for the biological active ingredients, you will need to apply your scientific understanding and practical skills to the development of novel products.

You will use appropriate experimental design methodologies to optimise the formulations and advanced analytical techniques will be applied in formulation evaluation and stability assessments. You will work closely within the project team and with external partners and support the production of concepts for bioassay testing and field trails.

Accountabilities

  • Undertake research within the scope of the project, establishing a programme of research activity working collaboratively with internal colleagues and external partners
  • Provide written reports and oral presentations on project progress, including risks and issues
  • Comply with Health and Safety regulations
  • Keeping up to date with formulation development techniques, applying it to your project work

Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities

  • Masters degree (or equivalent) or PhD in Biotechnology, Applied microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutics or similar.
  • Relevant industrial experience formulating microbial products or biochemicals derived from fermentation
  • Experience working independently and safely in a chemical or preferably, microbial or biochemistry lab environment
  • A love of practical work, good organisation skills, scientific curiosity and an ability to solve technical problems are all critical for the role
  • Proactive, with demonstrate initiative and the ability to learn new skills and a continuing passion to learn and maintain knowledge of external technology and literature in your area of expertise
  • Good oral and written communication skills in both spoken and written English
  • Methodical approach and attention to detail
  • Strong team playing skills and desire for projects to succeed

 

Additional Information

Our ideal candidate will understand the challenges of handling and processing & preserving biological materials, understanding of possible biochemical or physical degradation factors and have practical experience in this area.  There may be opportunities to scale up your discoveries to support our field trial activities, thus experience on scale up and technology transfer of liquid and solid formulations is highly desirable
