To support that challenge, the Field Production team is currently seeking a Field Production Research Trial Agronomist in Caldwell, ID. 

You will help shape the future of agriculture by: 
Execute established Large Seed Vegetable (LSV) Field Production Research trial plans to assure that Syngenta has a consistent, timely, supply of high-quality seed
Assure successful production of critical genetics assigned to the region through active technical liaison with Supply Chain (SC), Research & Development, growers and third-party vendors
 


Qualifications

Accountabilities  

  • Collaborate with LSV Production Manager and Agronomy team to develop short and long range objectives demonstrating continuous improvement regarding line characterization and production protocols
  • Establish cost effective plot and trial plan with LSV Production Manager and understand financial implications of executed projects.
  • Provide Production Manager & SPS with quality and reliability data to support P&S in advancement process.
  • Understand species and variety characteristics, seed quality standards and crop delivery requirements to optimize seed availabilities.
  • Work with Research & Development (R&D) and Global Seed Production Specialists (GSPS) to test/implement new production concepts.
  • Through networking and education remain current on new and emerging production techniques, bring to production team for evaluation and fit analysis. 
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of current and established production techniques across multiple crops and crop families. 
  • Provide technical advice to commercial agronomist’s and seed growers on new and unique production techniques- working partner and consulting on farm.
  • Develop and implement programs regarding agronomic issues in production fields including, weed, disease and insect programs, and timely field inspection programs.  Provide pesticide and agronomic recommendations to optimize yield, quality and COGP.
  • Coordination with site internal Quality Labs and personnel to ensure high quality seed is delivered to the customer.
  • General administrative management duties including signing vendor contracts, collecting – preparing – inputting data for reports and conducting Quality Management System (QMS) meetings.
  • Foster an operational culture founded on adherence to all applicable Health Safety Environment (HSE) and other corporate policies, procedures and guidelines.  Active leadership in the “Goal Zero” safety campaign.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and communicate with Field Production Team key milestones


Requirements 

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or related field; equivalent professional experience and/or training in addition to the experience requirement will be considered
  • Required 4 years of related experiences
  • Vegetable Seed Production Experience, with focus on LSV crops highly desirable
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Knowledge of general industry procedures, practices, and terminology
  • Knowledge on Large Seed Vegetables seed production techniques
  • Strong agronomic and pest/disease management skills

Critical success factors & key challenges

  • Meet crop plan targets while maintaining high quality production.
  • Achieve annual COGP and HSE targets.
  • Proactive professional working relationships with seed producing vendors.
  • Assessments, implementations, and execution of important business strategies relating to consistent supplies of high quality and sufficient quantity seed products.
  • Ability to support identified Production challenges and opportunities by working collaboratively with the Local Production Teams to create viable and pragmatic improvements.
