Role purpose

The incumbent will be responsible to support the healthy seed production of Syngenta’s market leading varieties.  Providing the right tools for the Field production community to develop and support the regional sourcing strategy. Facilitate and lead the cross crops vegetable seed pathology continuous improvement plan. Communicate and liase with all relevant stakeholders to enable one team. We produce seeds all year round at Syngenta, from our own global sites and those of our partners worldwide, enabling Syngenta to deliver quality products to customers on all continents. This role will support APAC region 

Accountabilities

  • Regional Crop inspection, performing risk analysis and audits. Training and instruction onsite of local FP teams, 3rd party vendors and growers. 
  • Maintain Global network on assigned species and participate with FP, GSSS and GCU.
  • Collaborate with pathologist located in different regions, cooperate, share best practices, and set the required prioritized actions, execution, and close follow up on its delivery.
  • Facilitate & organize the required (IT) tools, infrastructure, easy data access and ways of working to create the optimal environment for the Field Pathologist to function & drive the creation and execution of their associated global crops.
  • Lead & coordinate cross crop projects to optimize global vegetable seed health in assigned species and designated region.
  • Responsible to be pathology expert for assigned species, develop global Hygiene process and procedures for species.
  • Responsible for training and developing others, growing, and sharing your knowledge to continuously develop hygienic seed production techniques within region and assigned species.
  • Coordinate the Development and implementation of plant pathogen prevention and control programs amongst teams.
  • Coordinate the Management of incidental plant pathogen breakouts and action initiation
  • Creating a consolidated vegetable seed Field Pathology strategy- overview from the crop sourcing strategies developed by the dedicated crop GSSS / crop supply chain team.
  • Translate the cross-crop field pathology strategy in action plans and liaise with the regional field production Heads/Managers to set prioritization, create its business case and plan the execution.
  • Observe the cross-collaboration crop continuous improvement needs focused on global seed health and manage coordination and follow up of its actions.
  • Collaborate with QC team in identification of pathogens in production fields.
  • Regional resource for disease identification and mitigation for all species groups in region.
  • Support productivity, efficiency & sustainability projects as identified within GSSS community and through sourcing strategies.
  • Representation of Syngenta in external platforms on phytosanitary regulations
  • Resource for Seed movement and Trade team on operational Trade Affairs work (additional declarations, CoO)
  • Managing improvement projects

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

Critical experience

  • Master or Bachelor degree in Pathology
  • Functional knowledge of seed production operations
  • Experience in Managing Cross Functional teams
  • Strong IT & project management skills and experience
  • Fluent in English
  • Global mindset and experience working in a multi-cultural international environment

Critical technical, professional, and personal capabilities

  • Experience in pathology, disease identification
  • Financial knowledge & data analytics
  • Experience in working across functions both within P&S and outside of P&S.
  • Independent and entrepreneurial mindset, ability to set a clear vision, End-to-End thinker and at each moment understand the impact of a decision on the ultimate customer satisfaction
  • Skill to analyze & understand the financial impact and take ownership of processes
  • Strong communication, presentation and collaboration skills
  • Cross cultural awareness and ability to work in diverse teams
  • Strong drive to successfully complete projects

Critical leadership capabilities

  • Ability to work with Global network and Production group.

Additional Information

  • Willingness to travel world-wide as required which travel around 60%
