The Vegetable Seed Enhancement Team (VSET) is closely connected to the vegetable seeds R&D, production and processing plants and services all Syngenta vegetable sites globally. We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Seed Phytosanitary Scientist to join us and be a member of a multidisciplinary team embedded with a variety of stakeholders to support the global vegetable seeds business. You will develop and deliver new seed disinfection methods, seed technology treatments, and processes, while contributing to global harmonization of seed disinfection methods. Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Define project scope and targets with stakeholders to ensure appropriate seed disinfection, treatment, and technologies are delivered and implemented. 
  • Produce high-level scientific reports in English. 
  • Provide project and technical leadership to project team and (or) colleagues at other sites. 
  • Collaborate proactively in cross-functional projects with R&D, seed health development, and phytosanitary teams to ensure effective transfer and adoption of novel technologies. 
  • Proactively seek and share knowledge, ensuring effective capture of seed disinfection and technology know-how for broader organizational use. 
  • Ensure full HSE compliance, promote environmentally sustainable solutions, and effectively communicate HSE consequences of new technologies to seed processing sites.

Qualifications

What we are looking for? 

  • PhD in Plant Biology, Plant Physiology, or Phytopathology OR first degree in these fields with extensive relevant experience. 
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead projects in a corporate environment. 
  • Ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, while influence and persuade key stakeholders. 
  • Proven track record in translating theoretical knowledge to practical solutions. 
  • Expertise in seed physiology and phytopathology; understanding of seed processing stages (beneficial). 
  • Demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions, while valuing and incorporating expert inputs when needed. 
  • English language proficiency at minimum B2 level (Common European Framework scale) and willingness to learn Dutch. 
  • Willingness to work in a very diverse corporate environment with focus on innovation and customer centricity.
