The Soil Health Research Team is recruiting a Scientific Specialist. We are looking for a motivated researcher to design, execute and analyze biological experiments with various soil organisms ranging from molecular scale to whole plant assays. Together with the team, you will thrive innovation and productivity with your passion, experience, problem solving mindset and the swift adaptation/ introduction of new technologies, including digital approaches. 

 

Accountabilities

  • Fully responsible for different test systems in the area of Soil for both early-stage research compounds as well as for supporting development programs.
  • Drives innovation in Soil Health; evaluates, reports, and implements new ideas or technical solutions in consultancy with line manager and scientific experts.
  • Strives for highest quality and is as well efficient in a wide range of responsibilities
  • Fully Responsible for organization of own work in line with priorities and timelines given
  • Documents experiments and test results and carries out independent interpretation of data and proposes adequate follow ups
  • Regularly reporting and communication of results, outcomes in oral and written form
  • Further develops existing testing methodologies and implementing or benchmarking new approaches
  • Develops & maintains comprehensive agro-biology, crop protection and laboratory practices.
  • Understands defined process flows and methods, norms and guidelines in own area of biology and supports and improves those
  • Offers and actively collects relevant information to/from colleagues and supervisors.
  • Responsible for maintenance of laboratories, laboratory equipment, and instruments.
  • Independently stays up-to-date with science in relevant area of research expertise
  • Adopts new technologies with a digital mindset to accelerate innovation and to improve productivity     
  • May work in indication or cross indication operational projects
  • Seeks for continuous improvement
  • Ensures compliance of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) to Syngenta standards, encourage and propagate best practices, especially in the area of biosafety.  

Qualifications

  • MSc in agronomy, microbiology or molecular biology or equivalent professional education
  • Experience in applied plant pathology and/or agrichemical research as well as in designing and conducting bioassays.
  • Experience and strong interest in research topics, especially in the field of agriculture 
  • Strong foundation in MS office suite, experience in digital data capture and analysis
  • Interacting effectively with scientific and non-scientific staff at all levels within the organization and seeing yourself as a creative problem solver.
  • Eager to continuously learn and advance own (and others) knowledge.
  • Ability to establish a strong network and to collaborate effectively
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams
  • Adapts to change in Syngenta and is able to communicate positively but honestly
  • Fluent English; written and spoken (B2 or higher). Any other language is an asset
