Your responsibilities:

• Independently execute series of mutagenesis / genetic validation tasks in support of projects, and take part in routine Resistance Risk screens delivering key inputs to Fungicide projects
• Actively shape novel experimental programs and contribute to method development for automation 
• Support the characterization of resistance mechanisms through a wide range of approaches covering phenotyping (cell biology/confocal imaging, plant pathology and sensitivity testing), protein science (cell fractionation, enzymology, western blots, affinity purification), and molecular biology (molecular cloning and transformation, (RT)qPCR, NGS and amplicon seq analysis).
• Follow biosafety/HSE regulations, as well as Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) in every experiment. Pro-actively update existing ones and create novel ones when required.
• Contribute to laboratory operational excellence: supervise the maintenance of a range of equipment and facilities and contribute to the scouting, ordering and implementation of new equipment in consultation with the team and line manager.
• Document and analyze experimental results, generate reports and presentations and propose appropriate follow up actions. 
• Develop and expand knowledge of own scientific discipline through appropriate reading and attendance at courses and external meetings.
 


Qualifications

What we are looking for:
 
• A highly motivated and science-driven scientist with a master’s degree in relevant area of science (e.g. Microbial Biotechnology, Molecular Biology)
• Some years of practical experience with microbes (sterile handling and production), mutagenesis approaches, protein techniques (protein extraction, immunoprecipitation, western blot) and molecular biology techniques (cloning, sequencing, qPCR and transformation), experience in the private sector is a plus.
• Familiar with SOPs and Biosafety regulations 
• Basic skills and proven interest in programming and automation (image analysis, robotics) are a plus
• Good working practices, reliable: excellent tractability, full compliance with safety rules. Proved accountability in lab work requiring GLP or complex processes
• A team player, able to technically support other research scientists in the frame of multiple projects and to work in good synergy
• Actively reporting (orally) / frequently updating 
• Flexibility to adjust workload to unexpected requirements.
• Fluent in English
