As a skilled Scientific Data and Informatics Analyst we would like you to Streamline our data and processes for Predictive Science and Digital Innovation within Product Safety, Crop Protection R&D.

The team: With one of the most productive research and development pipelines in the industry, our Product Safety organization plays a vital role in getting our much-needed products to farmers to control disease, pests and weeds that impact their crop. Using our scientific excellence and application of rigorous safety and regulatory standards, Product Safety ensures Syngenta’s products can be used safely and sustainably with minimal risk.

As part of the Crop Protection strategic agenda, there has been significant focus and investment in predictive science and digital transformation throughout our research and development functions and pipeline.  Our digital challenges are vast and unique, and data underpins our activities.

Therefore, we are looking for a skilled Scientific Data and Informatics Analyst to help us transform our data into the foundation for predictive science and digital innovation using your expertise to help shape our data strategy. The ideal candidate is a data enthusiast who demonstrates attention to detail and enjoys setting up processes and systems to make working with data more efficient.

You will support our project scientists and modellers on data initiatives ensuring optimal delivery of high quality, fit for purpose data to these customers. You should have up-to-date expertise in database construction and data science, including data extraction, data preparation, data visualization and writing programs to automate data processing and calculations. You will also need a solid background in fundamental statistical concepts applied to scientific data quality assessment and interpretation. A good understanding of the challenges and common pitfalls in both data science and statistics is required.

Based within Product Safety, you will be working in partnership with project scientists and modellers across a wide range of disciplines. You will be responsible for collating and transforming raw data from across multiple sources, developing and maintaining datasets, improving data quality, building APIs for data consumption and integrating external or new data types to assist development of predictive models in the areas of Human and Environmental Safety. In addition, you may also be responsible for analysing and visualising data to identify trends and researching new ways to make use of data.

Qualifications

  • You are likely to have an MSc in STEM or a data/informatics-related field along with industrial experience of assessing data quality, building data pipelines and overseeing ETL (extract, transform, load) process to convert scientific data into appropriate formats for utilization, analysis and visualisation.
  • Proficiency in SQL, R and/or Python is expected along with experience using relational and non-relational databases. You will have knowledge and experience in handling scientific data (e.g., biology, chemistry, biochemistry, toxicology) across various sources (internal, commercial and public) created within different research areas (e.g., pharmaceutical, agrochemical).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams are essential to ensure that appropriate, high-quality data is made available for use in analyses and modelling.
