The Robotics and Automation Expert supports the delivery of the strategy and direction for the use of Sensing Technologies, Robotics and Automation in the Digital and Automation Technology Team in support of Seeds Development. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate expertise in the Sensor and Image Recognition area as well as collaboratively work across global, cross cultural, functional matrices.

Specific job duties include the following:

  1. Influence and implement digital and technology strategies and projects and closely work with the Pipeline Enablement and Field Crop teams that is comprehensive on methodology and landscape with a clear implementation plan.
  2. Identify PoC targets to meet the business requirements and support the regional technology teams on PoC and scale-up projects.
  3. Actively scout for relevant technologies, be abreast with external innovation, through leadership in their areas of accountability.
  4. Interact with Computational Sciences and IT (plus any other related functions) to develop and align on mid- and long-term business plans, technology process ownership and excellence in their implementation and delivery.
  5. Support a global framework that enables rapid upscaling / introduction of new software and technologies into the operations of the Continuous Nurseries and Field Crops that is adapted to local needs.
  6. Continuously improve and innovate in delivery of Technologies, including improving HSE, cost effectiveness, speed, accuracy and reliability working closely with operations team, assessing evolving needs.
  7. Design and develop robotics systems for use in laboratory, greenhouse, x and field settings, including lab automation systems and gantry systems.
  8. Design and develop electrical circuits for a variety of applications, including low and high voltage systems. Design and layout printed circuit boards (PCBs) using CAD software.
  9. Develop computer vision models for field and controlled environments and test and validate computer vision models and systems using a variety of techniques, including simulation, prototyping, and field trials.
  10. Work with the following processes, tools and concepts: Stand-alone application development; Hyperspectral UAV end-to-end process; End to-end data architecture and data modelling; AWS, IT, and network security; Seed research end-to-end operational process workflow for corn and soybeans; Automated environmental sensing for controlled and field environment supporting global field research framework; Infrastructure engineering for large plant research facilities.

Qualifications

This position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering or a related field and 3 years related experience.

Must also have 12 months of experience (which may have been gained concurrently) with each of the following:

  1. Designing and developing robotics systems for use in laboratory, greenhouse, and field settings, including lab automation systems and gantry systems.
  2. Designing and developing electrical circuits for a variety of applications, including low and high voltage systems. Designing and laying out printed circuit boards (PCBs) using CAD software.
  3. Developing computer vision models for field and controlled environments and testing and validating computer vision models and systems using a variety of techniques, including simulation, prototyping, and field trials.
  4. Working with the following processes, tools and concepts: Stand-alone application development; Hyperspectral UAV end-to-end process; End to-end data architecture and data modelling; AWS, IT, and network security; Seed research end-to-end operational process workflow for corn and soybeans; Automated environmental sensing for controlled and field environment supporting global field research framework; Infrastructure engineering for large plant research facilities.

Will accept experience gained before, during or after Master’s program. Must pass a background check and drug test before beginning employment.

Position includes domestic and international required up to 30% of time.
