Our Flowers Seeds Development department is currently looking for a highly motivated Research Associate 

 

Into Action

In this role, you work closely with the (Senior) Breeder, manage on- and offsite trials of the breeding program, including but not limited to planting, data collection, plot maintenance, harvesting, seed processing and other administrative activities related to breeding and testing. You support the (Senior) Breeder to evaluate breeding materials against defined product profiles and describe progress and to manage germplasm diversity within the program. Furthermore, you work closely with the operational teams in setting up and conducting breeding and pollination trials, elite, purity and product comparison trials. You also assist in harvesting and processing activities to improve the quality of results.

 

The Challenge

Together with the Technical Team you work on closer integration of traits relevant to the product profile. Besides that, you work with the Trait Discovery team for trait discovery and implementation of new technology for introgression of new traits. You perform all duties in a manner consistent with and in support of all company policies and practices related to safety and compliance, including completing all required training courses.

Qualifications

Your Profile 

To succeed in this role, you have a BSc or MSc in Plant Breeding or similar degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience. You have thorough knowledge of plant breeding, genetics, statistics and field design, population genetics, quantitative genetics, phenomics, plant biology/pathology and marker assisted breeding. Knowledge of cultivation and genetics of ornamental crops is highly appreciated. Work experience within a data-science based breeding program is highly desirable and proficiency with computers and database software is required. You are experienced in project management in a team-oriented atmosphere. You communicate effectively in both English and Dutch.
