Role Purpose 
The individual in this role will be responsible for leading a team that is focused on safely executing regulated research level yield trials for corn and soybean. They will have accountability for defining the teams capacity, associated budget and ensuring successful delivery of the agreed workload on time, at the highest quality, on budget and in compliance with Syngenta’s HSE and Stewardship policies


Accountabilities

  • Recruit, hire and train direct reports. Foster continuous development of direct reports through Individual Performance Management, continued education and direct mentoring. 
  • Developing team member expertise and capabilities in agronomy and phenotyping.
  • Oversee regulated yield  trialing activities in corn and soybean to assure that standards and timelines are met for planting, agronomic management, phenotyping, harvesting, monitoring and compliance reporting.  
  • Define operational capacity, align resources and work plans within team and manage the operational budget.
  • Identify equipment investment needs within the team in order to improve operational efficiency, on time performance and data quality. 
  • Work in cross functional teams when appropriate to ensure business goals of the NA Trialing team are met.   
  • Build a team culture that exemplifies Syngenta standards for HSE and Stewardship. 
     

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an agriculture-related discipline
  • Clear understanding of the practices and procedures that impact trial data precision and accuracy.
  • Proficiently communicate and work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to build a high performing team that continually learns and develops their capabilities.
  • Ability to deliver on the quantity, quality and timelines of the agreed upon workload.
  • Ability to coach and foster staff development.
  • Willingness and motivation to learn, implement and champion new technologies.
  • Model Syngenta’s commitment to safety, sustainability and product stewardship.
  • Ability to use MS Office, Smartsheet and other standard office software.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  
Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in field or greenhouse.  Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.  Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the growing season.

WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Field, office. Potential allergenspollen, fungal spores.

TRAVEL:
Seasonal travel with overnight stays to off site trialing locations, project and team meetings

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with precision agriculture equipment
  • Understanding and demonstrated use of modern agronomic practices
  • Takes a broad perspective and proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated initiative and implementation of specific, measurable performance objectives.
  • History of implementation of continuous improvements and new innovations
  • Knowledge of best practices in agronomic management.
