Role purpose

  • Lead Vegetable Seeds Production at respective production location or area, working closely with PM, APMs, MoM, Pathologist, plant operations, Field production Research, nursery team and Field Quality teams.
  • Planning and delivery of given Seed Production Plan for in scope crops and varieties round the year, with vendors and growers
  • Organize and scale up male flower and pollen supply and post-harvest operations initiatives to strengthen reliable supply and IP security of varieties in scope
  • Support Budget inputs like base yields, technical varietal characters and formulation of cost of production
  • Lead, train and develop team of Area Production Managers (Agronomists) and non-full time employees, to deliver the targets
  • Execute production plans within compliance framework
  • Ensure compliance to internal control standards in all activities
  • Identify and develop villages, growers and support development of new areas and vendors to secure production of crops in scope for domestic as well as export orders
  • Continually improve production network by developing innovative ways to produce seeds with Growers and vendors to meet Syngenta’s needs
  • Increase profitability for both Syngenta and Growers, while increasing production reliability
  • Actively partner with production manager for negotiations with Vendors
  • Hold the accountability for the delivery of the budgeted savings
  • Execute team Capability strategies set by leaders and HR manager

Accountabilities

  • Responsible for health, safety and sustainability in the area of operations
  • Implement Fair Labor Program initiatives in his area
  • Maintain the production and related documents as per SOP
  • Identify gaps between current requirement of production area, vendors and villages to deliver production targets and implement a correction plan to address the gaps
  • Demonstrate highest ethical standards and ensure company procedures are adopted and followed
  • Ensure delivery of KPI’s aligned with functional objectives
  • Maintain current technical knowledge and industry trends, in his area of operations

 


Qualifications

Critical success factors & key challenge

 

  • Ensure production and delivery of planned Seed Production Plan with optimum combination of quality including seed health, price, reliability, location and grower capability
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and colleagues in other areas and sub functions
  • Knowledge of the technical trends and production strategies in industry
  • Propose innovative ways to produce sensitive and newer hybrids
  • Ability to work in a global matrix and handle multiple priorities
  • Set and maintain appropriate ways of working and standards with the cross functional teams

Critical knowledge

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in agriculture or Life Science
  • Technical knowledge of Vegetables Seeds production like agronomy, Entomology, Fertilizers and Pathology
  • Knowledge on Veg seed production crops and areas
  • Knowledge of competition scenario and local agriculture macro economics

Critical experience

  • Experience in Seeds Production   
  • High level knowledge in Procurement
  • Experience in managing teams and third-party suppliers

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities

  • Collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to understand financial implications of production execution in field
  • Persuasive communication skills with ability to easily engage stakeholders across functions and cultures
  • Understanding of field production and procurement
  • Adopt to change and manage change in his area.
  • Ability to establish relationships with colleagues, cross functional teams and vendors etc.
  • Contribute positively to the values and the culture of the business

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be able to walk or stand for extended period of time
  • Must be able to climb stairs
  • Must be able to travel by car or plane
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including phone, fax, copier and computer

OTHER 

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Travel requirements (mostly with area): approximately 70%
