Purpose*

  • Ensure the smooth daily management of logistics and order management (OM) operations for ocean and air freight movements to and from Syngenta and 3rd party loading points in the AMEA region by closely monitoring the performance of outsourced service providers.
  • Lead initiatives that will improve service levels of logistics and customer service to internal and external customers in the AMEA region and optimize cost to serve the business.
  • Ensure consistent, compliant and effective performance of AMEA Global Modes 4PL and OM service provider by following structured governance models and any operational and business reviews
  • Act as an active member of the AMEA supply operations team in charge of logistics and OM operating model performance to provide seamless service to AMEA business

Accountabilities*

Supply Operations

  • Act as an escalation and liaison point for all logistics and order management issues raised in AMEA region (Syngenta sites, tollers, 3rd party suppliers, warehouses and commercial units) associated with the 4PL and OM service provider.
  • Contribute to the performance and financial targets of the logistics and OM function in AMEA through leading performance and partnerships with outsourced service providers.
  • Ensure a strong platform of logistics and order management controls over logistics and order management operations through a strategic, tactic and operational set of KPIs and continuous improvement tools.
  • Ensure that any agreed and documented corrective and preventive long-term actions for any issues or non-conformances related to 4PL are upheld and completed.
  • Create a governance environment in partnership with commercial units to correctly address the actions and decisions of the logistics and order management processes.
  • Ensure the continuous improvement of all processes associated with outsourced providers and maintain full ownership and control of all related and documented SOPs and working instructions within their scope of responsibility.
  • Represent AMEA region in all global forums as part of the Global Logistics Leadership Team).
  • Work with regional logistics SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) and partnering functions to identify processes, financial and system opportunities.

People Management

  • Training, development and the performance management of direct reports in a remote environment (incl. outsourced service providers)
  • Coaching and mentoring of new joiners

Qualifications

Business Impact: (Ranges should be used to describe budget, revenue, turnover, capital spent and future business growth)

  • Accountable for the supply budget supporting sales > $3.5bn p.a.
  • Portfolio with medium to high complexity: no of SKU, supply network complexity
  • Logistics spend approx. $100-$150m p.a. (ocean & air freight from AMEA & China)
  • FTE : 3-4 people
  • Geographical footprint – AMEA region

People:

  • Direct reports: (people management): 3-4
  • Leadership team members: Head of AMEA Supply Operations, CU P&S Heads
  • Indirect reports: 10 (in-country logistics teams)

Geographic Scope: AMEA (Asia Middle East Africa) region

Critical knowledge

  • 10+ years professional experience in logistics supplier management and/or logistics and customer service operations (mainly ocean & air freight)
  • A successful track record managing the delivery of outsourced services
  • International experience working with large multinationals in a complex, cross functional business environment
  • Broad and comprehensive knowledge of logistics, ocean & air transport working with international operators (forwarders and/or carriers)
  • Clear understanding of compliance and application of best practice within a regulated transport industries (dangerous goods, e.g. agro-chemicals / pharma business sector)
  • Experience of the key interfaces within the supply chain, e.g. warehousing, customs, order management and planning
  • Proven team leadership and capability development
  • Managing risk and understanding trade-offs
