The purpose of this role is to contribute to the implementation of the global financial compliance strategy through a focus on high-risk financial compliance areas, delivery of training & awareness sessions and providing project implementation support, ensuring financial compliance is a business enabler. In this role, you will partner with Business Finance leadership to understand business developments and provide compliance insights that offer a range of risk weighted solutions to facilitate decision making. You will as well liaise with control owners to ensure control performance as per the Internal Control Framework.

Location is flexible over Europe where Syngenta has legal entities - ideally Basel, Budapest, Madrid, Guildford or Manchester.

Accountabilities:

  • Together with the business, identify and mitigate key Financial Compliance risks at a regional level.  Provide pro-active, intelligent information to support decision making, mitigate risks, prevent fraud and safeguard assets.
  • Based on regional prioritization support projects/new business models/integrations to ensure appropriate controls are designed and handed over to the business for steady-state operation.
  • Contributes to adherence to the Syngenta Internal Control Framework within the region through coordination of testing, documentation and remediation and follow-up with control owners where necessary.
  • Supports the establishment and implementation of the Syngenta Internal Control Framework through provision of training programs.
  • Assists in the regional coordination of the annual financial audits with external auditors.
  • Supports the ERP access rights requests within the region and proactively limit possible Segregation of Duties Conflicts (SOD).
  • Provides support in fraud investigations within the region

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Accounting and/or Finance degree and CPA or equivalent designation is highly desirable along with experience in a public accounting firm (Big 4).
  • 5+ years working experience in a position in Finance, Audit or Compliance in Big 4 in large and multinational organizations. Experience in SEC listed entities is a plus.
  • Robust IFRS accounting knowledge and solid understanding of Financial Compliance and internal controls. Knowledge of/or exposure to China-SOX is a plus
  • Good and firm understanding in the design, implementation and monitoring of internal controls, risk libraries, compliance process management and compliance.
  • Experience with SAP in a decentralized environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Experience communicating and delivering presentations to senior management / stakeholder.
  • Good understanding of practical issues and trade-offs faced at country level, while still being able to communicate need to adhere to global standards and principles.
