About Us
Through leading innovations, we help farmers around the world meet the challenge of feeding a growing population and taking care of our planet. We are currently seeking a Project Engineer for our Seeds Engineering team in West Des Moines , Iowa.
Role Purpose
For capital projects throughout North America, primarily in the area of Seeds:
Design seeds processing facilities and specify seeds processing equipment
Prepare site and drawings; including general arrangement diagrams, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs 
Work with cross-functional teams to create front end design packages
Provide support to Syngenta Engineering Project Managers


Qualifications

Accountabilities

  • Support Project Teams and Engineering Project Managers
  • Represent Syngenta’s needs and interests internally with site management and externally with outside providers, while being mindful of best outcome for Syngenta 
  • Lead design and engineering efforts in cooperation with internal and external design partners
  • Lead and document project scope definition process with key Syngenta stakeholders
  • Assist in project planning and tracking
  • Communicate progress and issues to the appropriate level and obtain quick resolution
  • Provide support and mentoring to less experienced members of the design group to increase their capabilities and knowledge


Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in an engineering discipline required (Agricultural, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Civil or related field preferred)
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn structure and use of Autodesk applications
  • Able to read, interpret, and create Process and Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with and influence colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to apply inquisitive, analytical thinking to problem-solving scenarios and design innovative solutions
  • Ability to be “hands-on” but with the ability to direct and supervise, as needed
  • Ability to work with a flexible combination of in-house and external resources 
  • Excellent CAD, database and computer skills
  • Solid decision-making, prioritization, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to build up networks with internal customers, suppliers, and stakeholders; reputation for consistent customer focus
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, complexity and uncertainty; positive attitude to change and progress
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills

Preferred Requirements

  • Three-Five years of total relevant experience
  •  Three-Five years of experience in major CAD application and technical drawing
  • Familiarity with design and layout of mechanical, structural and process systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD and REVIT a plus
  • Experience in seed or grain processing a plus
  • Familiarity with a wide range of disciplines (mechanical, structural, civil, etc.)

Travel requirements and other information:

  • Flexible working hours at busy times to support the business needs.
  • Occasional overnight and multi-day trips (10% - 25%)

Some time away from the office at construction sites where capital projects are situated


Working conditions while performing essential functions:

Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions including sun, heat, rain or wind.
Able to work in an agricultural field where the terrain may be uneven, muddy, dirty, or dry.
