Role Purpose:

  • Procurement leadership of a defined New Active Ingredient (AI) portfolio, managing third-party sourced custom-made as well as off-the-shelf chemical intermediates and their suppliers.
  • Provide strong analysis to support Process Research and Process Development cost calculations and route decisions by screening and searching sources and price quotes for new raw materials and intermediates and proposing potential alternative chemistries and suppliers.
  • Develop and build a supply chain from small pilot volumes to commercial volumes as a part of the AI specific Technology & Sourcing Strategy Team (TSST), bringing the buy options into the make-or-buy decisions.
  • Ensure total control of spend including future commitments through proper commercial strategies in collaboration with Process Development and Technology & Sourcing.
  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships which will lead to the long-term lowest production cost position and ensuring availability and sustainability of supply.

Accountabilities:

  • Manage the portfolio spend ensuring best possible value creation, aligning COGS, sustainability, and supply strategies;
  • Play a leading role in assigned TSSTs for the selection of the “right” supplier, in consideration of Syngenta’s internal capacities, the overall Syngenta supply base and the Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) strategy;
  • Provide expert market knowledge / intelligence for the components within the allocated AI portfolio and their key competitor AIs;
  • Is and acts as an Ambassador of the Procurement organization. Make Syngenta the customer of choice of selected suppliers, leveraging already existing relationships;
  • Independently develops and negotiates optimal supply or custom manufacturing agreements with high business impact, supported by legal and technical functions. Owns the supply contracts for the assigned portfolio and pro-actively ensures Syngenta’s ownership of the learning curve;
  • Supports the management of strategic relationships, including negotiation of major contracts and agreements, contract performance and service delivery;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of New AI category sourcing strategies based on long term objectives and ensures business alignment with global business strategies for the managed portfolio;
  • Build and provide expert market knowledge for the fine chemical supply market.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years business experience, preferably to include 2-3 years chemical development or related experience
  • Experience in working across functions and with external partners
  • Chemistry, chemical engineering and/or business degree
  • Strong interest in the economics of chemical processes
  • Fluent in English; Chinese, German or French are an advantage
