  • Provide guidance to Active Ingredient Technology Leads in developing process technology and intellectual property strategies.
  • Work closely with Global Supply functions to define technology, cost targets and resource requirements to meet the needs for technology development, new production introduction and life cycle management of existing products.
  • Plan and manage the deployment of technical resource available to meet the objectives and priorities of Production and Supply in the areas of new and existing process development and manufacturing support
  • Lead the process development for all products in manufacturing at Muttenz
  • Ensure effective collaboration between process technology functions and the Production organization to deliver process development objectives for new and existing products
  • Manage and develop Active Ingredient Technology Leaders for products and intermediates.
  • lead technical transfer of manufacturing processes to 3rd parties (outsourcing) and to and from other Syngenta facilities (technology transfer) and coordinate technical support to sourcing projects
  • Lead the identification and evaluation of areas for process improvement in the manufacture of existing products
  • Develop and coach members of the group to achieve higher professional/technical and managerial standards, maximize their potential and continuously improve effectiveness in meeting Global Supply needs.
  • Ensure  leading-edge techniques for experimental design and execution are used in development projects
  • Collaborate effectively with Production. Ensure manufacturing support priorities and activities are jointly agreed and monitored with Production Managers (PM).

Qualifications

  • Master or PhD in appropriate technical field (chemistry, chemical engineering)
  • Excellent communication, influencing and partnering skills with a proven track record of successful collaboration in multi-disciplinary teams in a matrix organization
  • Professional competency in chosen discipline with extensive knowledge of chemistry/chemical engineering, achieved through many years of experience within Process Development, Production or (Capital) Projects with a proven record of delivery
  • Experience in production including technical expertise to evaluate and assess technology strategies, proposals, and potential implications/risks for the manufacturing process
  • Experience with technical transfer from development to first commercial production
  • Detailed working knowledge of relevant HSE legislation
  • Corporate knowledge and intellectual property: Recognized expert on chemistry/technology & patents in the areas of responsibility.
  • Detailed knowledge and awareness of systems for process change and the potential implications on product quality – formulation, regulatory, etc
  • Fluency in English, with advanced German skills highly recommended. It is expected for the occupant to develop appropriate German skills while in the position.
