Process Chemist - Sourcing Support

Purpose:

• To provide technical leadership for product manufacture, ensuring support to external and internal manufacturing processes and projects to achieve Health, Safety and Environment objectives, capacity and cost targets
• To lead a matrix team which provides process technology expertise to develop and deliver the techno-commercial strategy for new and existing products.
• To act as technical consultant on process development & capital projects and on sourcing/outsourcing/technology transfer projects.

Accountabilities:

• Develop Technology Strategies, establish targets and resource requirements to meet the needs of Global Supply for technology transfers and innovations for new production introductions as well as life cycle management of existing products. Drive the implementation and support partners to deliver according to the technology strategies.
• Plan and manage the deployment of technical expertise available to meet the objectives and priorities in the areas of process development, manufacturing support and troubleshooting.
• In conjunction with Technology & Sourcing Manager, lead technical transfer of manufacturing processes to 3rd parties (outsourcing) or other Syngenta facilities (technology transfer); coordinate technical support to sourcing projects (new raw materials, intermediates and active ingredients).
• Lead the identification and evaluation of areas for process improvement in the manufacture of existing products (externally and internally) to improve HSE, reduce costs and develop capacity in line with Supply Chain strategies.
• Ensure key technical knowledge for outsourced product is captured, documented, and archived in a format that will allow further innovation, development and /or relocation.
• Ensure the leading-edge techniques for experimental design and execution are used in development projects.
• Ensure effective collaboration with Global functions to deliver process development objectives for new and existing products.
• Contribute to communication with other functions (internal & external) to exchange information and ideas and to increase overall technical competence and product as well as IP knowledge; establish & maintain key technical networks.

• Chemistry MSc Degree minimum, ideally PhD in organic chemistry.
• Broad experience in chemical manufacture and process development.
• Strong knowledge and awareness of systems for process change and the potential implications on product quality, formulation, regulatory, etc.
• Strong knowledge about Health, Safety, Environment & Quality regulations in the chemical industry, specifically on process hazards, audits, intellectual property and compliance liability
• Supply Chain and financial expertise: knowledge of costing systems, budgeting, financial targets and of the impact of technical choices on Supply Chain performance.
• Proven experience in project management for new manufacture/capacity expansion/transfer case. Ideally with at least one project involving 3rd party.
• Professional competency in chosen discipline with extensive knowledge of chemistry/process chemistry, achieved through solid experience within Process Technology, Technology and Sourcing and Production or Projects with a proven record of delivery.
• English and French fluent.
