About this opportunity: 

As part of the Structural Biology team, you will be working as part of multi-disciplinary project teams, providing critical support for the structure-based design (SBD) of agrochemicals. This opportunity requires significant experience in solving protein structures by X-ray crystallography, with utilisation of other techniques such as NMR or cryo-EM an advantage. This work is also complemented by the use of biophysical methods such as ITC but experience of this can be gained in the role.

Role purpose: 

  • To solve protein structures using the most suitable method to inform the design of further compounds along the research pipeline
  • To help guide the production of suitable protein for structural studies by working closely with Protein Science colleagues
  • Facilitate collaborations both internally and externally to address issues related to accessing certain protein families for structural work
  • Effectively coordinate and communicate timely results through presentations, e-mails and reports 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • PhD in a structural biology related discipline
  • Practical experience of protein crystallization, optimisation, X-ray data collection and structure solution ideally across a number of protein families

Desirable Experience (any of):

  • Soluble and/or membrane protein expression and purification
  • Other structure solution methods such as cryo-EM or NMR
  • Biophysical methods such as ITC, DSF and SPR
  • Screening methods such as XChem for fragments, assays for in vitro campaigns, etc.
  • Use of molecular biology and structure prediction analysis software
  • Basic chemistry knowledge in the area of protein:ligand interactions
