Job description

The Formulation Department in Münchwilen plays a crucial role in transforming Syngenta's innovative active ingredients into Crop Protection products. These products are designed to support farmers in producing healthy, nutritious food and to help lead the transition towards more sustainable agriculture. The department's responsibilities encompass the development and optimization of novel formulations from laboratory to production scale, as well as providing product support throughout their entire lifecycle.

We are currently seeking a Principal Scientist in Microbials Formulation Development (m/f/d) to join our team working on the design of microbial-based formulations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in biological crop protection.

In this role you will:

  • Planning and conducting experimental programs to support biological projects portfolio
  • Working independently with support from team leader and scientific staff
  • Applying fundamental understanding of microbial behavior and formulation principles
  • Using scientific approaches to generate and implement innovative solutions
  • Developing formulations for microbial-based agricultural solutions
  • Collaborating with internal colleagues in Switzerland and globally, plus external partners
  • Partnering with cross-functional teams (Chemistry, Biology, Analytical Science, Regulatory)
  • Reporting, recording, and presenting data to technical and business teams
  • Influencing key project decisions and directions

Qualifications

  • PhD in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related field (postdoctoral experience advantageous) or Master's degree in same fields with significant work experience
  • Fluent in English (C1 level or higher) and proficient in German (B2 level or higher)
  • Familiarity with microbial-based formulations and technologies
  • Experience with scale-up and manufacturing requirements is beneficial
  • Proven ability to build cross-functional networks and implement new practices
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong team player with attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with effective time and project management abilities
  • Thrives in fast-paced environments with multiple priorities
  • Takes ownership and drives decisions with enterprise-wide perspective
  • Embraces calculated risks and lean/agile approaches
  • Results-oriented with focus on value-adding activities
