The Seeds Development Flowers department for Syngenta seeks a passionate candidate for a full-time position of: 

Phytosanitary Specialist

Type: Permanent

Department: R&D Seeds Development

Location: Enkhuizen & Andijk

As a Phytosanitary Specialist, you are at the forefront of safeguarding plant health and maintaining top-tier phytosanitary standards across our Flowers R&D sites in The Netherlands: Enkhuizen and Andijk. You play a critical role in both addressing phytosanitary challenges and proactively preventing potential threats, ensuring our operations comply with stringent global policies and local regulatory standards.

The Challenge
This job comes with a lot of different responsibilities. But what exactly are you going to do?

  • Diagnose & Act: you have an eye for details, where you detect and address easily pest and disease issues. If an issue arises you develop targeted action plans, and you work closely with the specialist growers to minimize risks.
  • Prevention: prevention is better than cure and therefore you will lead the “Start Clean – Stay Clean” initiative. You will be implementing preventative policies to protect plant health across the different departments.
  • Protocol Oversight: you write, update, and maintain the phytosanitary protocols and you ensure the integration with the quality management system.
  • Training & Development: Together we see more. Therefore, you will train your colleagues in pest and disease identification to strengthen team expertise.
  • Global Teamwork: You play a key role in phytosanitary safety on a global level and collaborate with the global phytosanitary team for knowledge sharing and aligned practices
  • Regulatory Coordination: you build effective relationships with regulatory bodies like Nak- tuinbouw and NPPO and stay informed on emerging risks in the market.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain accurate records, manage non-conformities, and contribute to audit processes to uphold compliance.

Qualifications

Your Profile

To succeed in this highly challenging position, you must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field with 5 years of experience in a similar role, with in-depth knowledge of plant pathology and pest management. You have knowledge or experience with laboratory techniques relevant to plant pathology and pest identification, as well as of various growing systems. You are familiar with phytosanitary and pest control regulations, and you have a proven capability to analyze complex plant disease or pest issues and devise effective solutions. You should have at least good communication skills in English and preferable you speak Dutch, or you are willing to learn the language.
