At Syngenta, we believe every employee has a role to play in safely feeding the world and taking care of our planet. To support that challenge, the NA R&D Vegetable Operations team is currently seeking an Operations Technician located in Nampa, Idaho.

Role purpose: The Operations Technician role is to assist the site manager and project leads in delivering their project and operational goals by planning and executing trials and nurseries. This role will also adhere to and promote local compliance and quality efforts.

Accountabilities

  • Perform field trialing support and organization activities including; planning field trials, planting transplants, gathering relevant data, harvesting and extracting seed
  • Perform off-station trialing support in collaboration with local breeding teams including; planting field trials, gathering relevant data and harvesting
  • Perform greenhouse nursery activities including: organizing nurseries, sowing, planting transplants, tissue sampling, pollinating and extracting seed
  • Interact with station operations functions and breeding teams to ensure timely trial cycles are achieved
  • Performing all tasks and behaving in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety related company policies and practices, including Company training courses and leading safety in the roles respective function
  • Effectively communicating regularly and with peers and supervisors regarding the status of projects and work activities

Qualifications

Critical knowledge and experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    AA or BS degree preferred
    Three year’s comparable experience in Plant Science, Agronomy or related field preferred
  • Agricultural research experience or agricultural background preferred
  • Bilingual- Spanish/English highly preferred

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Strong computer skill (Office 365, Sharepoint, ect.)
  • Ability to learn and use proprietary breeding management software systems
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team and to communicate with individuals throughout the organization
  • Ability to use professional concepts and company policies and procedures to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways

Additional Information

  • Physical demands of the essential functions: Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in a field, greenhouse, growth chamber, warehouse and walk-in cooler. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the research cycle.
  • A minimum of two years in current position is required (requirement for internal applicants only)
  • Potential allergens-pollen, fungal spores, chemical pesticides in field, greenhouse or growth chamber. Exposure to high and low temperatures, sun, rain, and dust.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • All applicants must be eligible to work in the US.
