At Syngenta, we are working to build the most collaborative and trusted team in agriculture that provides leading seeds and crop protection innovations to enhance the prosperity of farmers. We are currently seeking an Operations Manager in Waterloo, NE.

Role Purpose
This role will provide a proactive, forward looking approach for site activities. They will establish and maintain site operations to help reduce and eliminate unplanned down time. They will focus on operations such as, capital project management, harvest execution, conditioning, treating and packaging, and implementing and maintaining a preventative maintenance program. The successful individual will foster an operational culture founded on HSE, quality, and process improvement. They will also be a key stakeholder in the site’s “Goal Zero” initiative. 


Accountabilities  

  • Assist in coordinating key plant activities; including harvest, conditioning, treating, packaging and rework 
  • Coordinate project timelines with Syngenta Engineering, external contractors and vendors  
  • Measure and report plan progress weekly and meet objectives
  • Meet inventory accuracy business goals while adhering to Quality Core Processes 
  • Ensure resources, people, processes and systems are in place to achieve site goals 
  • Coordinate and schedule preventative maintenance on site equipment  
  • Participation and coordination of quarterly management reviews and ensure audit schedule is updated and audits are conducted with learning’s implemented 
  • Actively participate in site leadership meetings, including team-building events and community outreach  
  • Work within Operating Budgets including COG-P Budgets for Plant Fixed and Variable Costs.   
  • Assist with capital projects to help deliver on HSE, quality, productivity and financial objectives 
  • Recruit, recognize, develop and retain employees to meet operational capacities  
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management. May manage projects outside of normal plant activities 

Qualifications

  • Foster an operational culture founded on adherence to all applicable HSE, and other corporate policies, procedures and guidelines. Active leadership in the “Goal Zero” campaign. 
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA and Government regulations including Worker Protection Standards, conduct and comply with audits to ensure HSE aspirations are being met or plans are in place 
  • Develop and nurture a culture which ensures HSE integration into all activities while also encouraging employee to take personal responsibility for HSE 
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure projects and Quality Management System standards are met to Syngenta standards  
  • Remain current with latest production technology and develop specialized skills (i.e. systems, data analysis, equipment maintenance, automation, etc.) to support seed operations. 

Requirements 

Note:  this position is 100% on-site in Waterloo, Nebraska

  • Bachelor’s Degree in ag related field of study preferred, High School Diploma required
  • Minimum of 3-4 years related experience with an emphasis on production and/or supply chain activities and 2 years in leadership role.
  • Valid, good standing driver’s license
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Must be willing and able to workdays, evenings, and weekends
