The Pack & Sort site lead will be responsible to lead Nevada Pack and Sort seed development operations for the site, including the management of facility management services, capital projects, site operational budget, as well as accompanying activities. Will be accountable to drive effective process and packing site operations to deliver the Seeds Development strategy with high standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence.

  • Ensure on time and quality delivery of seeds to all trialing sites, bringing speed, precision, and power to corn and soybean delivery.
  • Ensure right personnel is trained and available on site on time for each packeting season.
  • Ensure all seeds are shipped on time for all trialing locations.
  • The position requires an understanding of process flow, manufacturing best practices, and Lean/6-Sigma methodologies.
  • Additional skills needed are an understanding of data analytics, the ability to translate strategic vision into tactical action, the ability to synthesize complex issues into actionable solutions, and identification of the high impact ideas to drive recommendations effectively to senior executives and customers.

Trialing Writing Coordination:

Manage multi-functional team to centralize trial writing for all trialing and nursery activities impacting NA pipeline. The position will streamline workflow to meet aggressive deadlines and deliver trial information as soon as it’s available, relieving workload from scientists to allow a more concentrated focus on advancement decisions. Establish the team, train on new tools and new ways of working.

Liaise with trialing and operations leads to nominate and accommodate workload among teams.

  • Continuous Nursery trials submitted within 48 hours of material advancement.
  • Set creation for summer nursery and trials submitted by early December.
  • Finalize trial writing for summer trials and nursery by late April/May

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  • Manage performance output of third-party suppliers and labor providers to ensure delivery, transparency and communication regarding site operations.
  • Motivate Pack and Sort staff and Syngenta partners to meet agreed upon deadlines for on-time Trialing Planting.
  • Implement a facilities strategy to create an environment where Syngenta employees can contribute to their highest potential, delivering innovative contributions to the business in safe, efficient, and effective ways.
  • Ensure investments in capabilities, resources and infrastructure in site is in alignment with Seeds Development strategy and capital processes.
  • Lead implementation and execution of projects on site.
  • Ensure interface, collaboration, and handover with other site functions.
  • Ensure high standards of HSE, quality and operational excellence for site activities.
  • Facilitate site tours, demonstrations and events with clients, customers, and industry partners as needed.
  • Manage site operations budget.

Critical Knowledge and Experience

• Strong leadership and motivational skills

• Experience in managing and developing teams in a matrix organization

• High level understanding of manufacturing environment

• Experience identifying critical issues and drive correct action plans

• Experience adapting to situational changes

• Sound understanding of commercial and business concepts

• The ability to influence, build consensus and gain support

• Clear decision-making in the face of conflicting priorities and ambiguity

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required. MBA or equivalent degree desired. Engineering background is also desirable.

• Experience working within a complex matrixed organization. Desirable previous agriculture experience.

• Project management skills

• Strong problem-solving skills

• Capability building / Change management skills – leverage empathy and coaching with functional stakeholders to achieve

organizational buy-in and long-lasting changes

• Highly collaborative, genuinely enjoys working together with the businesses to develop solutions that advance Syngenta overall mission

• Strong communication skills, can comfortably lead meetings with senior -level management

Preferred Requirements

• Familiarity with seed technology industry, including directly applicable experience with pack and sort technology, automation and machinery

• Knowledge and understanding of best practices in modern agriculture.

• Fluent in English. Other languages are beneficial.

• Experience in facilities operations in a commercial and/ or R&D environment is desirable.

• Excellent communication skills to support both internal customers and external customers.

• Effectively manage stakeholders in an inclusive and productive manner with exceptional skill in building productive and collaborative relationships.
