The Seeds Development department for Syngenta seeks a passionate candidate for a full-time position of: 

Market Segment Lead Flowers EAME

Type: Permanent

Are you ready to lead the development of innovative flower products that meet the ever-evolving needs of growers and customers? As our Market Segment Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our superior across-crops flower portfolio. You'll be the key link between market demands and our business (breeding) strategies, ensuring the successful introduction of new products that leverage the industry’s leading technologies. Join us to steer our Flowers Market Segment Team (12 people, which include breeders, scientists, and trial/product placement specialists) and make a significant impact in the floral industry.

The challenge 

As the Market Segment Lead, you will be at the forefront of product development and assessment. But what does this exactly mean?

  • Your responsibilities will span from forecasting and planning to executing trials, data collection, and analysis.
  • You'll need to drive data-driven decision-making processes, utilizing advanced tools to enhance efficiency and data quality.
  • You will collaborate with cross-functional teams (like Production & Supply and commercial functions), to ensure the seamless introduction of new products to the market.
  • You will develop a resource plan and the budget forecast (excl. budget management) to support market needs. This includes seed shipments, compliance, grower/ field contracts, labour and other activities aiming to secure product development in the market across all crops.

  • Managing the Market Segment Team, you'll oversee performance, priorities, and career development to deliver in the end the best strategy and product portfolio.
  • You will lead the Regional Flowers breeding team to establish a collaborative team that will be responsible for developing new varieties using advanced breeding methods and data analytics tools. With this team you develop the regional breeding strategy aiming to maximize product performance across segments and countries in the region as well as globally.
  • You will collaborate with R&D Vegetables & Flowers functions and portfolio managers to develop a resource plan that will support the business objectives for the region.
  • Last but not least, you’ll be an active member of the Flowers R&D Leadership Team. This team develops implements our 15 years strategy to support our customers and business objectives across the region.

Your leadership will be crucial in aligning breeding strategies with market needs, optimizing resources, and accelerating product development. Key challenges will include developing a high-performing product portfolio, increasing speed to market, and improving data quality while aligning R&D with commercial plans.

Qualifications

Your profile 

What do we think you need to excel in this role?

  • You should have a Ph.D. or Master’s degree in plant breeding or a similar field, with knowledge of plant breeding processes, genetics, statistics, and field design. You should have at least 5 years of experience in the seeds industry, with a proven record of people management in a cross-functional environment.
  • A commercial background in product management or pre-commercial development is advantageous.
  • Strategic thinking, the ability to lead and motivate high-performing teams, and strong project management skills are essential.
  • You should be adaptable, flexible, and capable of managing resources efficiently to meet objectives within budget constraints.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and corporate software, along with the ability to generate comprehensive reports, is required.
  • Fluency in English and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision will ensure your success in this dynamic and challenging role.
