About Us 

  • At Syngenta, we are working to build the most collaborative and trusted team in agriculture that provides leading seeds and crop protection innovations to enhance the prosperity of farmers. We are currently seeking an Operations Manager in Slater, IA. 
  • You will enhance the prosperity of farmers by: 
  • Managing all plant related processes for a parent seed production facility
  • Providing direct supervision and management of assigned plant operations, including: inventory management, harvest, warehousing, conditioning, treat/pack, quality testing, maintenance, receiving and shipping
  • Assisting with operational and capital budgets as well as management of plant personnel
  • Foster an operational culture founded on HSE, Quality, and process improvement

Accountabilities  

  • Provides oversight, direct, and coordinates all phases of plant activities
  • Develop, drive and support site operational targets for both short term and long-term strategies
  • Coordinate and direct scheduling of conditioning, reworking and treating processes with other site management personnel
  • Measure and report plant progress weekly, recognize variances and make adjustment to either meet or exceed plan, meet inventory accuracy business goals while adhering to Quality Core Processes
  • Ensure resources, people, processes, and systems are in place to achieve site goals
  • Work closely with other Site personnel to support management reviews, both internal and external audits and training plan for Quality Business System
  • Develop and/or support LEAN Six Sigma program to increase operational efficiency
  • Coordinate and direct scheduling of needed inventory to facilitate the fulfillment of orders in a timely and efficient manner
  • Work within Operating Budgets including COG-P Budgets for Plant Fixed and Variable Costs
  • Manage and develop Capital Investments to deliver HSE, efficiency and quality objectives
  • Recruit, recognize and retain employees to meet site operational targets
  • Support of an effective Performance Management program with employee development plans and recognize needed changes in organizational structure to achieve operational and cost efficiencies
  • Ensure all policies and protocols are up-to-date and are being followed by all employees and contractors
  • Demonstrate critical effectiveness in leadership skills, confronting problems directly, challenge other managers/direct reports to make difficult decisions
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA and Government regulations including Worker Protection Standards, Conduct and comply with audits to ensure HSE aspirations are being met or plans are in place
  • Develop and nurture a culture which ensures HSE integration into all activities while also encouraging employees to take personal responsibility for HSE
  • Perform other plant related assignments as directed by Manager. 
     

Qualifications

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in ag related field of study preferred, High School Diploma required
  • Minimum of 3-4 years related experience with an emphasis on production and/or supply chain activities
  • Valid, good standing driver’s license
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Must be willing and able to workdays, evenings, and weekends
  • Experience managing projects outside of normal plant activities
  • Ability to adapt to changing environmental/situational needs
  • Ability to make timely, effective decisions
  • Ability to remain flexible and responsive when faced with multiple urgent requests
  • Meet processing targets while maintaining high quality output
  • Achieve annual COGP, measure variances, drive activity rate improvements
  • HSE targets and HSE culture development to ensure integration into all activities
